What a great surprise you find at the back areas of Coober Pedy. A quirky underground hotel that is clean, tidy, comfortable and the most welcoming of staff. The staff are happy to showcase the underground apartments and the history of the place with all those that ask. They will give you ideas on touring and where to find a... More

Met the original owners daughter who was absolutely lovely. She opened the underground kitchen & made us coffee n milkshakes for the kids. Chatted with us and let us look around. True outback generosity and friendliness. 5 stars. Didn't stay but wish we had.

Something very unique in the world to experience. Living underground with controlled atmosphere. The temperature remains constant so no air conditioner needed at all. The beautiful graphics on the wall created by nature makes it a very rare experience. Do not just read come and check it out yourself.

We traveled to Coober Pedy to see opals and the opal mining. The Comfort Inn was the highlight of our experience. Debbie was a gem in helping us explore the town and eagerly drove us to all of our activities and made reservations for us. Please don't miss this adventure. All rooms are comfortable, clean and so much fun.

This is one of the original mines that has been converted into a hotel. The rooms are really deep underground, as is the restaurant and lounge area. From what we could see of other hotels during our visit to Coober Pedy most of the so-called underground rooms just open onto the main ground level and are dug cave-like into the... More

This is truly a unique experience and one that everyone should try - the owners have done a brilliant job of transforming this old Opal mine into an experience not to be forgotten. The hotel is very comfortable and the owner is more than willing to give you a tour of the sections that were the old mine. I do... More

When I landed here for a job didn't expected to find good hotels in such a small town. But apparently there are few hotels around here. Most of them are cave experience hotels. Because coober Pedy is famous for opal mines and because of high temperatures people live in underground caves. Now don't confuse these caves with those of prehistoric... More

I recently stayed at the Comfort Inn and as soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by the friendly owner Debbie. I was shown to my pretty "cool" underground room where everything was clean and tidy. For breakfast I enjoyed an extensive self serve continental assortment to choose from. I also had a great sleep knowing my... More

I stayed at this place a few months and was destined to return. Why? Staying underground in the Comfort Inn at Coober Pedy is an experience of a lifetime and a must "to do". Debbie is warm and welcoming and generous in sharing her local tips of what you can do and where to go while staying here. You won't... More

You are welcomed in the door by a cheerful voice and smiling face. The rooms are clean and large. Being underground is very unique and it is explained to you how it all works. Would highly recommend staying.
