I was so happy at Civic. I had a twin with aircon to myself which made a pleasant change from dorms. This is such a clean hostel and you get a clean white towel. So many little touches make it homely; free tea and coffee, luxury hand wash. The courtyards are so pleasant to hang out. When tea towels get... More

I loved the civic guesthouse. I was in need of a hostel on quite a short notice and I had a very late arrival into Townsville, but the staff were very helpful and arranged for a key to be put out for me. The first room I stayed in was a 4 bed with a ceiling fan, but I was... More

Cannot speak highly enough about this hostel. We stayed here for two nights. In a private double with shared bathroom. Easily the cleanest hostel we've stayed in in our four months of travelling. We had room 13 and was brilliant. Bed was comfy, small fridge and mirror in the room. We didn't have aircon but were advised we could upgrade... More

Had high hopes for this hostel after reading all the reviews. Staff were extremely lovely, the free pick up and drop off from the greyhound terminal was useful, the kitchen and bathrooms were kept clean. However I stayed in a 4 bed dorm it only had one fan which didn't work very well so it was far too hot to... More

Thank you for taking the time in leaving a reply on Tripadvisor. When a guest leave a review for us, and they start their review with “had high hopes” I automatically cringe, as we are not the ones giving ourselves the positive good ratings and reviews. We have our good days and bad days, and something totally unplanned or unforeseen... More

Jannik, 18 years old, backpacker from Germany All I was looking for as a backpacker was simply a cheap place to sleep and so I asked in the facebook-backpacker-group for the best hostel in Townsville. 5 out of 6 advised the civic! And I was everything else than disappointed as it was the cheapest (24$) hostel in the area and... More

I stayed in these hostel for 5 nights and it was the best hostel I've ever been along the east coast. Every room has his own fridge and they are very clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helps you with every problem.

The hostel is clean and the personal is mostly friendly. Actually I would say this is the cleanest and most lovely furnitured hostel I have stayed in. Just one problem is the cockroaches that run arround in the night but I think you can't change that in Australia. At least they are small and not as big as my toe... More

The kitchen was really dirty, there were no clean dishes. The toilet and shower smelled and looked so bad that it was hard to go in there. The room was ok, but it was to hot to sleep. The staff was ok.

Thank you for the review and giving my staff an ok, to me they are pretty awesome. We have 4 bathrooms, 6 showers, 6 toilets and 2 baths do you mean to say all my toilets and bathrooms smell and are dirty? The kitchen might have been dirty, but I have 20 plates, 20 side plates , 40 bowls, pots,... More
