Such a great hostel, I read all the reviews and wasn't looking forward to it. However, I had the best time! The staff are all lovely and so chilled...Jamie is a legend and dyan is also a nice guy and likes to have a laugh with you. The room is really nice, you all get your own balcony, bathroom in... More

Not Bad, stayed for 1 night as I was moving on but not bad for a backpacker and wanted only the basic of stay. good location and staff were very friendly. I was in a dorm but wasn't full but if it was it would feel cramped,

We stayed at the hostel for 8 days in February 2014. We had reserved a private double room in the hostel which we were definitely looking forward to after a previous horrible stay else where. The room was extremely basic and looked as though it hadn't been updated for many years but after 4 weeks of sharing rooms with strangers... More

Traces of vomit on the back side of the WC in our room (imagine the smell). We had to wait until next morning to have someone clean it. Blankets are very old, and I believe they haven´t washed them in ages (bedsheets were clean though). Carpets are old and smell. The place is run-down and needs urgent maintenance. Pictures on... Dear Paola M, We are sincerely sorry that your experience at the property was not to your expectations. As we have communicated post stay directly via email, I won't go into scrutinising all matters individually. Although I will say we do genuinely appreciate the feedback and can use this information to improve our services. Kind Regards Dean Cooper More

My son had the dubious pleasure of staying in this hostel. To say it was a pigsty would be an insult to the pigs. I accept that backpacking means roughing it some times but this takes advantage of the backpackers vulnerability. His room was about 10x10 ft square. In it were two bunk beds with a bottom sheet and a... More

Dear springer1951, We are sorry to hear that you are unable to recommend our property. I am not sure if you stayed with your son but I would welcome you contacting me directly so I can investigate the matter personally. All our rooms contain bathrooms including shower, basin and toilet and as such we do not have common bathroom facilities... More

There is a nice pool and the location is good, but that's about all it has going for it. It's a miserable hostel with strange guests. 4 bed rooms are very awkward compared to 8 bed because there's less chance of being put with someone you get on with and no way of avoiding them if you don't. Unfortunately most... More

While reading this review, please remember that I stayed in the hostel part of the Islander! Considering it is a hostel, this is the best one I have stayed at so far during my time in Australia. It is clean, the rooms are made for 4-5 people, and the backpackers passing through are always looking for a good time. The... More

Dear Candice P, It is so pleasing to hear that you experienced such a wonderful time at the Islander and Surfers Paradise. As noted we offer an unbeatable location that is one block to the beach and one block to Cavill Mall. Our facilities include onsite heated spa, pool, tennis court, squash court, restaurant, bar, bottle shop and more. We... More

Nice rooms and a hot tub. Not good for meeting other travelers though, common area is always empty and has a bad vibe. Worst of all is the staff. The cleaners are these cranky midlife crisers and then there's this smug, smug, smug, old hag at reception looking down on you. Ruined the experience for me

This was one of my least favorite hostels traveling up the east coast in Aus. I'll start with the pros: great location, swimming pool, and fairly cheap. The room I had was one of the "apartments" that came with a little fridge and living area (which was really a tv, couch to fit 2 people, and a lawn chair). However,... More
