We stayed one night at this hotel/motel in May 2008 during a road trip along the Bruce Hwy between Brisbane and Cairns. Of all the budget accomodation we stayed in this was the best value and we enjoyed our night here immensely. Room - was basic but clean, we had a shower cubicle in the room but had to share... more

Location, location, location. Add in some great history and you've got a great hotel. Our room was classic with beautiful woodwork and very comfortable beds. We overlooked the river and had a balcony if we wanted fresh air. The bar was hopping on our Saturday night, but you could not hear it from the room. Maybe it was because my... more

This hotel was cheaper than the hostels we had been staying in and was lovely. The location was excellent, overlooking the river and the place had got some history to it which made a pleasant change. (including a resident ghost!) The room itself (a double) had its own ensuite, tv and fridge and was huge. It also opened out on... more

I stayed only 1 night, but my business colleague has been staying there for almost 4 months. We are from the States and I was skeptical when the raved about the hotel. How could a small small-town hotel be so good? Well, my doubts where dispelled when i got there. The hotel is charming, has character and the bar is... more

We stayed overnight at this hotel. The rooms in the hotel itself we were shown were a little tired looking/dark but we were offered self contained motel units out the back which were of a very high standard. We're a family of four and had 1 double bedroom plus livingroom with 2 beds, settees, huge tv, playstations, luxury bathroom, dining... more

Stayed for two nights (including Melbourne Cup night) and found the hotel warm and welcoming. The bar was lively and friendly and the Bush Inn Restaurant excellent with the sort of steaks you'ld expect in the beef capital of Oz. Motel rooms at $85 were good value although no real natural light on the ground floor. Good location next to... more

We had to travel through Rockhampton, because we'd liked to go to Keppel island. Rockhampton is not the place to be, besides the pub in the Criterion Hotel. Really friendly atmosphere. Had a great evening. It's a nice grumpy old charming building in a very dull town. Although, we certainly went there on a rather quiet night, it can be... more

This hotel is pretty quiet by day but by night it turns into the biggest and best party in rocky for the weekend. Great entertainment, you are bound to have a great time. plenty of different rooms with seperate atmosperes. Cheap accomadation and right in the heart of rocky. With a touch of the old tradition this hotel suits many. more

I have stayed at this pub and value for money it was the best in my world travels. if you dont like smoke i gues you stay in a smoke free environment ie hospital, sub station or maybe a shopping centre. The meals were great, staff tremendous and the entertainment... more

I stayed at the Criterion hotel recently. I stayed on a Friday night. The room was ok when I walked in. However when I went to bed I discovered that despite the manager's assurances that the noise from the live band downstairs could not be heard from the room, I could hear the band, especially the drums, from the room... more
