We just came back from 6 days at this hotel and it was excellent. Breakfast by the pool every morning as a highlight. The hardest part was getting the kids to eat before they went for a swim. Our stay at Sands was generally good. The room was well priced compared to other accommodation in Port Douglas (we received the QLD 150yr 'anniversary' offer). The location, pool (unheated) and gardens are very good. During the day, the resort is nice and good for families. However, I cannot understand why this resort is worth 4 stars. The interior of the room (2 bedrm) looked tired and the beds were below average. The breakfast is not worth the name and certainly wouldn't last you until lunch... more
