Great location. It was nice that they had a tour desk there that could book anything you want to do. Right across the street from the skydiving company, and a short walk to the shops and boats. more

Great place to stay to discover the delights of Cairns. Staff were really helpful and sorted us out trips without a hitch. Made a load of new mates from the hostel.Would definatly stay again! A****** more

The hostel itself is well maintained. The rooms are cleaned daily and the reception staff is for the most part, awesome. There is a bar downstairs that gets pretty pumping, especially on weekends and can lead to some drunk and disorderly conduct which can lead to some messes, but all in all, the rooms are good, the location is good... more

The room wasn't very clean when we walked in. Sticky stuff (who even knows!) on the counter and a musty, moldy smell whenever we came back into the room. It got so bad that we had to leave the balcony door open so we could breathe. Our suitcases and clothes smelled like the mold once we left. The room did... more

After being spoiled by staying apartments we had to stay in a backpacker lodge this time. There simply was not anything cheap enough for the days we wanted. Too bad by the time we all paid our shares it was almost the same price as the apartments we stayed at in other cities. Do not expect frills because you will... more

Arrived early in the morning having just travelled for nearly 48 hours to be told i couldnt go to my room for another 5 hours and just had to 'entertain myself' till then. Was then put in a room with 6 swedish girls (im english) all travelling together, all speaking a language i don't understand - great way to meet... more

I spent three nights here and loved it! Travelling with a girlfriend we were put into a room with two Irish guys who were great fun, friendly and pretty considerate. We stayed in a 4 person dorm and found the room was nice and new. The lighting was a little dull (but not that bad). Our toilet didn't actually flush... more

This Backpacker is disgusting and abbsolute dirty cockroaches everywhere. Bedbucks in room 115 and 230 I also meet other people there had bedbucks too. I consider to go to the media and health department. Unfriendly and staff at the reception. Overflowing rubish bins I got pictures as evidence. Leeking ceiling waterpipes are soften the ceiling on the first floor and... more

I stayed at Gilligans for 5 nights in August this year. I'd read reviews before we got there and was a little concerned about the bed bug issue, but fortunately we were lucky enough not to encounter that problem. Upon our arrival, however, we noticed that our corridor and our room stank of damp. Furthermore, we had a problem with... more

Stayed at Gilligans at the end of a month's trip up the East Coast. Chose Gilligans because a lot of friends had recommended it to me. Its basically the same as a hotel! Much less hostelly than anywhere I stayed during my trip. I checked in fairly late and reception were quick and efficient (although slightly rude). The place is... more
