ok, this is cheap, and when you get there, you immediately know why... The place looks like a beach hippie place, can be nice but it must be your "vibe". The kitchen is only ok (you need to rent the kitchen stuff like plates or fork and knife...) and the facilities are not always clean. The highlight of the place... More

This hostel has everything and more: -Clean kitchen area -Quiet, spacious dorm rooms -Swimming pool -All staff are really friendly -Social area that has free tea and coffee all day, with wifi. -Really easy to meet people -A 'pants down' social most Thursday's, which is cheap for what you get! Plus you get to make your own tshirt and have... More

I should have known with a price so low it wouldn't be the best of places but the photos looked so nice! Don't be fooled by the pictures it's much different in person. The staff were pretty good but everything else was subpar. Bad location safety wise but not bad for walking distance to waterfront.

People there make me feel like home! Joe was very helpful! He will try his best to help! And he can give some diving advice. And can get free night if booking tour thru Asylum. Asylum encourages people hang out there and get to know people.

I stayed in this hostel back in 2011, I know this is a long time after to leave a review, but sometimes I'm just lazy. I look back at my two months here as the best of my life. The staff are very good and fun, the rates are very good, I met the best people of my life here.... More

Had a great stay at Asylum, Cairns, by far the most welcoming, helpful and friendly place I have ever stayed, thanks to Annie, Ty and the team! Wouldn't hesitate to go back! Helped us book the best tours and day trips, greeted us with a smile every time we saw any of them! They couldn't do enough for us! An... More

Booked this place online because I was coming to the end of my travels and needed a cheap place to stay. Good points - friendly welcome, BYOB. Bad points - room had no curtains so sun was shining in very early in morning, hostel was dirty, the pants down party looked pants (couldn't bring myself to take part). No atmosphere.... More

Lots of social events and chances to meet people, cheap rooms, hot showers and communal computer available for free. The rooms were a bit shabby but then it's a backpacker hostel and super cheap so you cant really complain. If you're looking for a place to meet people and see Cairns for cheap then this is it. Anything else any... More
