The property is disappointing, it's old, tired and dated. The rooms have 90's decor. The property presents as clean and tidy however the bathroom is full of mould and the internal clothes line in the bathroom no longer retracts. The restaurant service was slow and I waited longer than normal to be served my meal and drinks. The property is... More

I paid $89 a night for a twin-bed room. I expect they built this massive Resort Campus for people who would predominately stay onsite and not venture out of the campus very often. It took me 40 minutes to walk to Cairns CBD. They do have a shuttle bus for $4 one-way. If you have a car, or even a... More

My daughter and I had 3 comfortable nights here. I previously stayed here in 1989 on a netball trip and found the place to be very similar to back then although extra buildings and a tennis court have been built. We were in room number 451. On this current visit the curlews made their presence felt rather than the frogs... More

We were put up overnight by an airline so probably had a very basic room, but this is a basic Motel standard room and wasn't near anything except the airport. Good for airport stayovers but fairly noisy if you are on a ground floor room or near stairs etc.

There's nothing around this place so if you stay here and just have tours booked it's not so bad, but if you plan to see the city you have to take the hotel shuttle... Which costs $4/pp/way. Breakfast buffet is good the first time... Then it gets boring. Dinner salad bar option at the hotel restaurant is limited... Beds are... More

Loved the 3 swimming pools and strolling around the extensive, lush tropical gardens. However, although the classic room was clean and had hot showers, and on booking we were informed that they were in need of renovating; we were disappointed that the TV didn't work at all, the toilet cistern made a constant dripping noise all night, PowerPoint in bathroom... This resort hotel has been around for a while and I have been to two seminars here in the last decade. The Colonial Club has 350 rooms, two pools, a poolside bar, games room and conference centre. I had breakfast, dinner, drinks and conference lunch there this trip. My overall impression was one of friendly staff trying hard to provide... More

The Colonial has been around a long time. Staff are fantastic. The rooms could really do with a refurbish. But for the budget traveler who just wants somewhere to sleep after full days of sight seeing. This is the place to stay. Compared to the rest of Cairns, reasonable rates.

We had a pleasant room with a good shower. I enjoyed tge extensive tropical gardens and swimming pool gave it a nice resort atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Tbone Tuesday was a hit with hubby. Pricing is low and we knew it wouldn't be real flash. Very happy it was clean and quiet tho. Glad we had a car... More

Everything was old and not well maintained. TV didn't work, uncomfortable beds and the worst pillows (seemed like they hadn't been replaced in a LONG time). Noisy as well. No such thing as a Sunday sleep in. Other guests were up from 5am and we could hear our neighbours' conversation not to mention other guests enjoying the pool etc. terrible... More
