This is the joint worst place I've stayed in during my travelling in Australia. It is a dump DO NOT stay here. The staff are none existent, the kitchen is filthy, the communal areas look like they haven't been cleaned or decorated in 20 years and I had a lovely view from my front door of razor wire and timber.... All staff spoke terrible english and where very unhelpful, rude and unpleasant. Also reception is closed from 12-4 every afternoon so there is noone to go to at the busiest part of the day. Washing machine didnt work, we lost 5 dollars to it and there was noone to help. Room had massive damp patch on floor, smelt badly and... More

Stayed here in a Private Room for 3 nights. Hostel is extremely good value for money and the place is pretty good. Hostel has all the basics sorted and is a great place to just chill out and start your stay in Cairnes. All the main town centre stuff is about a 5 minute walk and theres a great Market... More

This hostel is decent. I booked a private room - it was NO FRILLS. The mattresses were on the floor, but were comfortable. There was an ICE COLD window a/c unit in the room too. The shared bathrooms were always dirty. They do not provide towels (or anything), so be aware of that. There is free wifi at Reef, but... More

Stayed here briefly during a quiet period so not sure how realistic my experience was, but it was bearable. Compared to some of the other hostels I've seen in Cairns this one has a fairly decent and equipped kitchen and they have a good sized garden/ common area as well as a pool. The bedrooms themselves are way too on... More

This was the first place we stayed when arriving in Australia and it was a good choice! The people staying there and also the staff were really friendly! The manager Steve was so helpful and when we were stuck for ideas of how to travel the coast he pretty much planned our whole trip! Its the sort of place you... More

Staying at the Reef was a great way to start our Australia travels. The staff (most of them working for accomodation) was nice, especially the manager was extreamly helpful and friendly! Ready to help where he can, despite of being very busy he took his time and always had a smile on his face. There are different kind of dorms,... More

I was there for seven nights. The location is good but all the other things were terrible. Guys could get in the female toilet and last time when I was taking shower, a guy got in the female toilet and knocked my door. He said I had been taking shower for so long but I just got in. I didn't... More

I stayed at the reef for a month and a half and loved it! At first, the the hostel itself needed sorted out a bit, but after a couple of weeks a lot of changes were made and I can't fault it! A true backpacker would love this place, a great sociable hostel with really laid back atmosphere. Definitely recommend... More

Two of us stayed here for around a month from June-July and we were so sad to leave! The hostel really became like home and felt like a family. Everyone is so welcoming and understands the perfect balance of partying and down time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular the english girl who was working the morning... More
