I missed a flight at Brsbne airport and needed an inexpensive place to stay for the night that would be close to everything. Saw the Palace Backpackers (or The Base as it is also called) flyer in the a'port travel desk. Price and central location appealed to me. While checking in, had to wait till 2 pm! was tired and... more

This is a big hostel, in an old fashioned and interesting building. I found the receptionists very helpful, rooms very good, bathroom and kitchen facilitys excellent. The location is brilliant, 5mins walk to the city centre, with the excellent shops and about a 20min walk to the lovely man made beach. Its abit nosiy, but as a backpacker you get... more

I have always given large hostels a wide birth as they can be impersonal and lacking in charisma, Palace or Base backpackers as it is also known is no exception. We only stayed here as we couldn't get in to any of the preferred hostels in Brisbane and it was the closest to the transport centre. With this in mind... more

This place is infested with BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our room was full of them and then we found out it was not just our room that had the problem at least 2 other people we met there had the same problem in their room. You have to pay $10 to use their plates and cutlery which is also a bit ridiculous... more

We were only in Brisbane for a night and found the Palace a pleasant place to stay, in fact, so much so that the amount of negative reviews here came as a shock! Upon arrival, check-in staff were friendly and remembered me from when I rang up to book, and our room was clean and tidy. We stayed in a... more

This is not a good hostel. It is not a clean hostel. The people working at the desk are not knowledgeable, and barely friendly. The bathrooms were somewhat clean, but so old and decayed, I was still scared to touch anything. At 5am when I checked out to go to the airport, the halls were littered with drunken people stumbling... more

The Palace is in a great location, right in the center of Brisbane. However, the place itself is a dump, it is very old, has an untrustworhty elevator, narrow corridors, and, worst of all, it is extremely noisy. I had a room next to the central hallway, and I was awake all night because of people walking by and slamming... more
