It's dirty, loud and crowded. Probably one of the worst hostel I've visited. The only good side is the price. If you're travel agent suggest you go there before a tour in the surrounding national parks, that might not be a good idea...

Pretty sick that you have a hostel with bouncers. Just stayed overnight and the next day. Expected not much because I read the reviews before. Long way from the airport (shuttlebus $18 one way). Pool area, wifi, good location, 24h reception. There is no atmosphere in this place, reception is not very friendly and tells you actually nothing without asking,... More

Positives: -Air-conditioned rooms, a must in Darwin -Located in Central Business District, which is easy to do given Darwin's size. Everything is walkable no matter where you stay. -Major supermarket directly across street -All women's floor -Bar that attracts the partying kind -Wading pools on roof -Contracted security staff from late evening to early morning -Rooms are surprisingly quiet despite... If you're looking for a cheap place for a short stay in Darwin, this is the one. The good things: check in desk open 24 hours (trust me, this is a rarity in NT), free parking on site, location, cheap laundry facility, price. The bad things: rude staff (possibly underpaid work holiday makers??), kitchen is dirty, bar area was really... More

I can sum it up by saying, "it was like staying in a night club". Blaring music, dirty/disgusting bathrooms, rowdy/drunk partiers, bouncers, people fighting/yelling outside our window, and an ambulance taking away some drunk person who rolled an ankle. We stayed here as part of an organized tour (departing at 6:30am the next morning), and it was one of the... More

I stayed here twice - at the start and end of a 3 day tour. Both times I was in multi-share (but private) rooms. The rooms were clean and had lockers for bags. Sheets and towel provided. The shared toiled facilities were not terribly clean (in one instance very dirty). The bar area of this hostel makes for very loud... More

The location is perfect as you have everything around , there is a bar, swimming pool within the hostel ... The staff is friendly. Rooms have air conditioning and are clean ( I was in a private double room ). The only thing... I will never understand the guests who respect nothing, it's a good place to stay and some... More

During the night it was really laud as soon as someone closed a door in the rooms around us. Also it was really cold from the aircon. I have to stay the... More

Hi r_saskia, Thank you for your review of Melaleuca on Mitchell, Darwin. We are pleased that you thought that the staff were good during your stay. The air conditioners can be adjusted if you are finding them too cold. If the air conditioner is on and the windows are open this would create the environment that you have written about.... More

The location of the Hostel was great as its in the party street and the coles and woolies are walkable distance. The Party Pool and Pub was nice to meet freinds. The Kitchen was pretty unclean and the washroom was just okay.. Rooms with Bunk Beds are not attractive but aircondition was good. Having a neutral feeling and its not... More

Hi naufar, Thank you for your review of Melaleuca on Mitchell, Darwin. We are sorry that you thought the dormitory rooms were not attractive. I travle more then 4 month around New Zealand and Australia, and this hostel is defently the worst one that I have ever visited - and I certainly do not consider myself as a spoiled backpacker. The hostel was too crowded, most of the washing mechines and dryers did not worked (and the once who did work, did not work... More
