During the night it was really laud as soon as someone closed a door in the rooms around us. Also it was really cold from the aircon. I have to stay the... More

Hi r_saskia, Thank you for your review of Melaleuca on Mitchell, Darwin. We are pleased that you thought that the staff were good during your stay. The air conditioners can be adjusted if you are finding them too cold. If the air conditioner is on and the windows are open this would create the environment that you have written about.... More

The location of the Hostel was great as its in the party street and the coles and woolies are walkable distance. The Party Pool and Pub was nice to meet freinds. The Kitchen was pretty unclean and the washroom was just okay.. Rooms with Bunk Beds are not attractive but aircondition was good. Having a neutral feeling and its not... More

Hi naufar, Thank you for your review of Melaleuca on Mitchell, Darwin. We are sorry that you thought the dormitory rooms were not attractive. We have changed out 100 set of bunks and mattresses in the hostel in May 2015. We hope that this improves the look of the room Regards Sheena and the team at MOM More

I travle more then 4 month around New Zealand and Australia, and this hostel is defently the worst one that I have ever visited - and I certainly do not consider myself as a spoiled backpacker. The hostel was too crowded, most of the washing mechines and dryers did not worked (and the once who did work, did not work... More

Rude, bitter staff. Great facilities, best location. Got accused of trying to steal when i asked for my $10 room key deposit back because "the sytem had no record of me paying". Left my sunglasses in my room but were never recovered. My advice - Stay next door at the value inn; 100% better rooms and staff, still allowed to... More

I didn't get much sleep the first night due to flights/tours so all I wanted to do at night was to just chill somewhere. The area outside the kitchen isn't very comfy, it's also right next to the bar and therefore very loud.. The tv room was dark and cold, I ended up having to eat my dinner in the... More

Stayed there for one night. Hostel was really packed with backpackers. We got a room with private bathroom and didn't hear any of the noise all people was doing in the fool and BBQ area. Really exactly what we needed after driving from Alice springs to Darwin.

Disappointing on the whole unfortunately. The front desk tells you not to touch the AC but it means the rooms have to be kept freezing by the AC or the walls drip with condensation. So down lean any bags against the walls and take extra blankets. There is no free wifi at this hostel. You'd think as you're paying to... More

Having read some reviews, part of me was apprehensive about going to the melaleuca but I can honestly say these doubts were unfounded. Very clean communal bathrooms, decent bar and good laundry facilities. As a backpacker, I liked the large lockers which were in the room that could store all your things and more. Kitchen was very big, spacious and... More

This was one of the only hostels I could find an available private room in the area at the time. It's okay. The room was mostly clean (a few black hairs in the bed) and we couldn't touch the AC as we were told at reception that it would make the room wet, so it was freezing cold all of... More

For a backpackers, I thought Melaleuca was excellent! It is close to shops, supermarkets, pubs, clubs and tourist attractions. The facilities were cleaned daily, the staff were mostly friendly and always helpful, and the kitchen was all in working order. Mitchell street is the main street in Darwin so it is sometimes noisy- mainly Friday and Saturday nights but I... More
