This was one of the only hostels I could find an available private room in the area at the time. It's okay. The room was mostly clean (a few black hairs in the bed) and we couldn't touch the AC as we were told at reception that it would make the room wet, so it was freezing cold all of... More

For a backpackers, I thought Melaleuca was excellent! It is close to shops, supermarkets, pubs, clubs and tourist attractions. The facilities were cleaned daily, the staff were mostly friendly and always helpful, and the kitchen was all in working order. Mitchell street is the main street in Darwin so it is sometimes noisy- mainly Friday and Saturday nights but I... More

It was the cheapest hostel we could find at this time (but still, Darwin is quite expensive!) , stayed in a 6 bed dorm. A/C worked great, room was okay. But well it has three bunks and lockers, thats it. The toilets and showers were super narrow and dirty. It was quite loud during the night, we stayed at the... More

My girlfriend and I have been travelling around Australia for 7 months now, we have stayed in more than 20 hostels all over the country and Melaleuca was no doubt the worst we have stayed in so far. The staff is rude, the bathrooms are dirty and the kitchen has very few hot plates that actually work. The first room... More

Good location and bathroom was a good size although really hot. Had pool and bar but guests quite rowdy. The room was really damp, the bed felt wet and you could see the water on the walls!! It smelt mouldy, glad I was only staying for one night!

The rooms were not overcrowded and had everything you needed including lockers. The rooftop pool was a great way to cool off and the people were friendly. The rooms were not cleaned well so don't look under the beds but otherwise the place was good and convenient with everything steps away including the free city wifi.

I just had to stay at the famous Mlaleuca on Mitchell. I have nothing to compare it to as I don't do backpackers usually as I figured I was way to old. NOT SO!! Reception staff insisted I was all good to stay.It was reasonable but not as cheep as you'd think it may be off season. They were kind... More

i moved into this hostel after staying in Youth Shack.. It's definitely better! Staff are friendly, reception open 24 hours and nice pool area :) All hostels on Mitchell Street are party hostels so don't expect it to be very quiet. I enjoyed my stay here and I will go back to this hostel when I'm back in Darwin
