A few years back, some of my family members and I decided to venture to the Red Center... with absolutely NO idea what was awaiting us! (Do your research people!) This backpackers was a desert oasis, if all motels were this good I would never go home! There was free breakfast, a large communal hall with a tv, plus outdoor... More

I spent four nights at Alice's Secret Travellers Inn and I was very glad I made the choice to stay there. The owner, Wayne is very friendly and helpful and I got what I expected and what was advertised: a small, quiet, friendly place. The hostel has good facilities - a nice sized kitchen, washing machines, a small pool and... More

Hey guys! This hostel is awesome. Very nice and quite located, you can still reach everything within minutes. Awesome details throughout the hostel, bookings possible for Rock Tour etc. Wayne is the best hostel owner ever... very hospitable. He is looking after you... Very friendly, always there for you! It's very clean, NO badbugs at all! Cosy caravans and rooms.... More

We spent a night at Alice´s secret and had a big welcome. Wayne, the owner from south africa, is a lover of the outback and a tourist guide also and he gave us lots of hints for our 4WD tour to Uluru and the Western Mcdonnel Range. We enjoyed that trip and were happy to have that information Wayne gave... More

The owner, Wayne is the real treasure of this hostel. He gave us a warm and friendly greeting, and repeatedly offered any kind of help we might need - to show us around, travel information (he used to guide tours of Uluru and other places, so he's very knowledgeable), and even offered to run to the bottleshop for us. The... More

We stayed for 2 nights in December and the place was empty. We didnt need to use the kitchen facilities so cannot comment. We had a private room with shared bathroom (although as the only girl had the bathroom to myself). It could do with a lick of paint and a good clean in the bathrooms but the pool was... More

Bathroom is dirthy especially toilet looks like they weren`t cleaned for weeks. Brown rests of ... Inside the toilet. Very dirthy!! The room smelled bad. Cockroaches were in my bed! The guy on the reception was confused and wasn't helpful when we had questions. Less but strange people there. I would never stay there again (spent 1 day) there are... More

I would overall say this is a great place to stay. My only disappointment was how I was greeted. I stayed twice and the first time arrived after more than a day travelling from Canada. I was tired and sticky and my luggage didnt make it with me. Wayne greeted me with a casual, take a seat and i will... More

We stayed for 1 night pre and 1 night post our 3D/2D uluru Emu run tour so 2 nights in total. Wayne was great - he helped us book our tour and shuttles. We had the little cabin in the back to ourselves which was great. Everything was very basic, but seemed clean and taken care of. Only disappointment was... More

This was the only hostel we stayed in on our visit to Australia but we liked it much much more than our two bedroom impersonal apartment in Cairns the night before. It's a quirky place that might not suit everyone but really quiet and friendly, Wayne is great and made us feel very much at home, lovely relaxing garden and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Discover why 'Alice's Secret' has been recommended by Lonely Planet as 'too good to stay a secret' (2006). New owner, Wayne, welcomes you to Alice's Secret Travellers Inn, a cozy, QUIET and relaxed hostel nestled in the middle of Australia's red centre. This hostel continues to be "a work in progress", next up is a new OUTSIDE KITCHEN for that true Aussie outside cooking experience! Recently added is our "Friday night FIRE in the Forgotten Corner", and currently going up a new very colourful shade sail outside the existing kitchen to keep us cooler in summer in drier when it rains (which happened a LOT the past 12 months). The smallest hostel in 'the Alice', we are tucked away on a quiet street just opposite arid bush land and near our Botanic Gardens, yet only a five minute walk from the town centre. Being the smallest, we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and friendliness and we are happy to give you that extra bit of attention you will miss in the bigger places. Alice's Secret is an old fashioned communal hostel with shared facilities, that means lots of places to get together and share experiences with fellow travellers. Communal facilities include a fully equipped self catering kitchen; cozy TV/video lounge with A HUGE COLLECTION OF VIDEOS/DVDs for those days when you just want to be a lounge lizard; and a spacious and green backyard complete with bbq, sparkling saltwater swimming pool, fish pond and abundant birdlife. Recently added is our CHAT ROOM, with leather sofa and games (vinyl record player to come!). Guests are also encouraged to make good use of our in-house didgeridoos, guitar and piano. All our rooms are clean and comfortable, air conditioned in summer and heated in winter. You can choose between dormitory, single, twin or double rooms and we have GIRLS ONLY ROOM. All linen and duvets are provided. Our accredited Travel Agency can advise and ensure bookings with all major tour companies (Australia wide). (Wayne has guided tours for the past 6 years to Uluru, around Aus, and in New Zealand). Booking your tours from us will definitely save you time and money!
