We travelled here in early May, not totally sure of what the homestead would be like. Getting there was something of an adventure as the property is located well out at the end of the East Mac ranges and is quite remote. The last 50 or so Kms were over a rough but reasonable unsealed road with great views of... More

We spent three nights at the Homestead in the self-contained cottage. It was great to experience life on a real cattle station in the middle of Australia, even for a short time. Our host, Maggie, was lovely - so friendly and helpful. The sunrise and sunset each day was spectacular and we could hear dingoes howling in the wee small... More

The trip out to Old Ambalindum Homestead requires a vehicle with clearance......irrespective of which way you go (Stuart Hwy or Ross Hwy). Travelling in on the Ross Hwy is quicker and you get to travel through Arltunga which is worth a look. When you get to the Homestead it's all rustic.....rural......and really, really good. It's a bit of a trip in, but well worth it. Lovely quiet, grassed campsites for two or three vans ( we were there by ourselves for 2 of our 3 nights. Great base from which to explore NSW's first town - Arltunga & the spectacular Trephina Gorge. Unfortunately with the rains Ruby Gorge was closed when we were there... More
