It wasn't until I'd made the booking I realised the hotel only has shared bathrooms. Arriving in Sydney on a sweltering day, we found it doesn't have air-conditioning either. But over the next few days we fell in love with this quirky Edwardian pub. There are three shared bathrooms, and they are well appointed and clean. The rooms are also... More

Staying next door at the YHA, the Australia is a natural choice. The pizzas are good (kangaroo, emu, other unusual toppings) and the beer is excellent (well, as Aussie beer goes anyway!). Try the "69" if it's on tap - wonderfully fruity. Friendly staff as well

This is an interesting abode. Not for the more mature traveller. Rooms basic, maintained daily. Breakfast included (cereals etc ). This is ideal for the younger traveler, late nights are recommended as the bar downstairs does not close until midnight. Very well situated in the rocks area of Sydney. Has a fantastic selection of beers and the food is not... More

I did not stay at the hotel, I just ate the food at the restaurant. I ordered the kangaroo pizza here. It was a good way to try kangaroo for the first time because most places I visited that served it only offered a whole steak. I liked having just a little on my pizza so that if it wasn't... More

We arrived in Sydney for our long weekend and our first place we had a meal at was the Australian Heritage Hotel, we had been there for drinks previously so we thought we would try having a meal this time. I had the Chicken Salad and my girlfriend had one of their Pizzas, both meals were very good and was... More

Great to visit here mid week when it is usually less busy. Fun and helpful staff, great pizzas and decent range of wine and beer. Good value for money. Outdoor seating with heaters for winter, separate rooms for private groups of booking a lunch or function.

Had a great evening sitting outside as they have heaters with good choice of beers, wine and variety of pizzas. Food tasted great but the pizzas arrived at a variety of times so it got a little cold waiting. Loved the atmosphere and would definitely go back again.

Having just completed a lengthy Rocks walk on a wet Friday evening, the Australian Hotel just doors from our accommodation, was the perfect choice for a relaxing meal. This was our first visit to the Australian, and on this Friday night there was no illusion of the popularity of this Sydney watering hole. The hotel was jumping, both inside and... More

Step back in time with a visit to The Australian! I've only visited the bar here, never stayed on the hotel, but I always come back for more! It's a traditional pub, with two levels which makes it really unique! The staff are always really friendly and they can recommend a good beer! There's a huge variety of bottled beer!... More

Only stayed one night here for a gig in Sydney. The hotel is really easy to walk to from circular quay train station but there's a lot of steps. I went into the bar to ask for reception and one of the staff looked after me, even carrying my bag up stairs for me. The room was fine. Bedclothes were... More
