Stayed at this hostel for couple of weeks and it was a really good place to stay in Sydney, with very friendly and helpful staff and decent prices for the room. Location was good in kings cross for getting to see everything and had a nice atmosphere with being a smaller house type hostel. It was nice and big for... More

Based on good reviews online, the price was right so we booked it. Goodness knows how this place has any good reviews at all, I can only assume they're not genuine! Not realising that Kings Cross is the red light district (our mistake, granted), this charming hostel is situated just a stones throw from all the local strip clubs. To... More

Stayed one night in a dorm in summer. Manager greeted me in shorts, only shorts... it was hot but no excuse for being virtually naked. It felt more like a boarding house than a hostel. Filthy bathrooms, broken glass shower stalls, filthy carpet, hadn't beEn refurbished in 20 years. A disgrace the authorities should regulate properties like this.

Located in the Sydney red light district it is a safe and clean choice. The staff are very friendly, remembering your name pretty much as soon as you check in, and knowledgeable. Due to the date change coming from the US I had booked for a night that I wasn't there. Instead of canceling my reservation or charging for the... More

We stayed at Asylum Sydney for our first few nights in Australia and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff were very welcoming; they took the time to introduce themselves, give us a tour of the hostel, introduce us to other travelers and show us to our room. The room was very clean and spacious. The staff... More

I highly recommend Asylum hostel. The location is perfect, the staff is really friendly and helpful. I instantly felt at home! The hostel is really clean as well. I was in a girl dorm and we had our own bathroom -which was spotless- and we even had our own balcony! I just wish the deco would have been matching the... More

I was sleeping on a top bunk that was no less than 2 feet below a ceiling fan. As you can imagine this caused problems because without the fan the room got far too hot. Room was generally in bad condition also. The saving grace of this hostel was the people. Met some really cool people there and the staff... More

Would highly recommend this this hostel to any backpacker, or someone looking for a place to stay in Sydney that is crazy fun. Have stayed there several times and it's the same every time, the minute you enter the door the fun begins. There is always something going on, people heading out to be tourists, floods of people going to... More

Just leaving Sydney after our second trip and second time at The Asylum. The place is so relaxed and all the inmates are friendly, the staff run BBQ's and instigate nights out so it's great for lone travellers looking to meet people. It's not the ritz but it's cheap and friendly with a great party atmosphere! Recommended for any traveler... More

Travelling as a couple, we booked two beds and expected to be in the same room, at the very least, but unfortunately they double booked one of our beds so we only had one between us! We were told that we could either share a top bunk, or one of us could sleep on the floor in that room. Staff... More
