I've lurked here and even stayed here on previous visits to Sydney. What a treat to see it again. Green glazed exterior tiles give way to thick yellowed cream paint inside, old wood, and a casual feel ($20 minimum on credit cards, by the way). I've been here on live music nights when craikh was in the air - that... More

We went to The Rocks Markets on Sunday afternoon. After a hour or so walking around we decided to stop and have some lunch and a few beers. We sat outside on the footpath at a table and were kept entertained by watching the passers by (thousands of them) and listening to the band (the pub has a band on... More

If you are looking for a DJ that replicates the noise of what a mosquito would sound like in a glass bottle, you are looking in the wrong place. This pub offers the old fashioned live band type of entertainment, typically speaking the bands are quite entertaining, the bar service is quick and the food is decent. Anyone that is... More

The room was basic, clean & comfortable. Had shared bathroom as en-suite rooms where booked. It also was clean and comfortable. There are stairs, staff offered to carry bags. The breakfast (included in price on weekends) was very good. The Irish band playing in the afternoon on Saturday when we were there was fantastic. Came back from days sightseeing and... More

When in Sydney we always try to stay at the Mercantile. Its a great location and for the price its second to none. If you book an ensuite room, you will get the biggest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel including a spa bath. Its a basic hotel room but great value and also very clean.

We really enjoyed our stay here over the long weekend & Vivid Festival. We had a basic, but comfortable & clean room. The shared bathrooms were well & often cleaned. The staff were friendly and helpful, and also gave us a simple but very good breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast in the morning. (I think this is served weekends... More

I wasn't expecting much from this place, being so cheap, but I'm really disappointed. Holidays are meant to be relaxing, but in the two days I stayed at the Mercantile I managed less than 7 hours sleep in total. The place is clean and comfortable enough, but the noise is ridiculous! You pay more to be here on the weekend,... More

HI Stacey, Sorry to hear your comments, unfortunately your stay was in the middle of the very popular vivid light festival and just before a long weekend so activity in the area was a lot more, combined with current works on the Harbour Bridge this is a flaw for being in The heart of The Rocks. We are pub accommodation... More

Really nice Irish restaurant and bar. The food there was lovely and not too expensive for Sydney. Great band on the Sunday I was there, great craic and good Guinness. Its in a lovely location, is very clean and staff are friendly.

I stayed in a single room for a night for less than $80. It was a little room with a bed flat screen and fan. I have paid 6 times that in Rome for almost similar. Shared spotless bathrooms always clean and they are refurbished. I ordered grilled chicken with chorizo sausage salad which was good. My room was above... More

If you want good old fashioned food, great beer and a place to watch to world go by then look no further than the Mercantile. After a walk round Circular Quay, some where that needs no explanation, we went to the Rocks and found this Oasis, we sat outside had several beers, an exceptional lunch with some good friends. The... More
