Its always a gamble to pick a hotel somewhere you've never been before, but I was so glad I picked the Vulcan. Not only was it a cute, trendy little oasis, but it was extremely easy access to the downtown by bus or by metro, and I felt so comfortable staying there by myself. I couldn't have picked better. The... more

It's a decent enough place - clean, with fridge, rooms are kind of small. But it's a bit of a hike away from the Opera House/Harbour Bridge area, it's even 20 minutes to Darling Harbour, where we went our first night. At $145 AUD/night, it's too expensive for the location and for what you get in the room. The on-site... more

Pretty well located, especially for Central Station. Lovely compact hotel. Rooms not big but nicely presented and good bath/shower rooms. Internet was only $10 for five days! Icing on the cake was the restaurant, the Hummingbird, where you have breakfast ($12 for coffee 2X eggs + toast), have a meal their one night - it'll save you shlepping out. Great... more

I enjoyed my stay at the Vulcan, and would stay there again. Our first choice would have been somewhere a little closer to George St, but it was a busy weekend in Sydney and those places had been taken. Even still, the Vulcan is a reasonable 15-min walk to the Central Station part of town, not too bad. There was... more

We stayed at the Vulcan Hotel in September 2008. We just heading to Sydney for a Shopping/Party night (6am flight out Saturday morning, 6am flight home Sunday morning), so the room was just used as a home base and a place to keep our stuff and to get ready in. Found it the night before on a search website, looked... more

The Vulcan is not in a very nice area and there is no where around the Hotel to have a stroll in the evenings. Darling Harbour is a good 20 minute walk, 1st past the Power House Museum then Paddy's Market monorail station, and then still a good walk after that. I agree about the outside space at the Hotel... more

The hotel seemed pleasant enough until my partner and I reached the room. We had requested a non-smoking room. The room smelt of smoke, it was even in the sheets and blankets. There were no toiletries when we first entered the room. We had to leave the hotel soon after checking in. Before we did we went to the front... more

Overall, my stay was rather disappointing, and very different from what was at the hotel's website: 1.Room not made up when checking in 2. Airconditioning failed hence couldn't sleep as it was freezing; though I have to commend the prompt response of the staff when told next morning 3. Cold room and atmosphere, more a budget accomodation than boutique hotel... more

Nice little hotel with very good facilities. Location is very good and only a short walk into the city or the harbour. It is no 5* hotel but that's not what I wanted place is clean and comfortable. more
