We've stayed several times at the Vulcan as it ticks all the boxes for a young family or for a couple. With kids we had a great space that was very comfortable for us all. As a couple we were upgraded and the room was quiet and well set out. This is a great location and the breakfast downstairs is... More

They hotel is great value for money. The location is close to Darling Harbour and the public transport systems of Sydney. Also: sydney fish market, Glebe, Dog track. Modern interior - clean, tidy and well appointed. I based myself for 7 days in this hotel and saw all of Sydney. From Darling Harbour, to the farmers markets, Opera house, Manly,... More

I liked that the place was set in a heritage building and provided a sort of old-world charm. We got the superior double room. It was large enough to fit in the cot for a third sleeper. Modernly appointed rooms were basic, a little dusty and a little dark but suitably comfortable nonetheless. Drove up from Melbourne in the evening... More

I stay at the Vulcan several times a year and each time I notice something new and improved. The staff are friendly and personable. Rooms are very clean and comfortable - including the smaller rooms - complete with TV, mini bar and air conditioning. It is very closely situated to Broadway - where you have a great range of restaurants... More

Some places get better over the years and some start out ok and then gradually, well, they don't exactly deteriorate they just get a bit jaded. Neither is the case with the Vulcan Hotel. It continues to be spotless, excellent efficient friendly owners and service. We have seen the same people cleaning for years, and Yves in the café has... More

In reading the reviews of the Vulcan it is obvious that my perceptions vary greatly with some of the previous reviewers. Whilst I will be the first to admit that the room I was allocated was the cheaper of their offerings it bore no resemblance to those featured on their website. Whilst the property has been refurbished in recent years... More

My goodness JummaBee you seemed to have not enjoyed your stay which is very disappointing. Our website and our staff go to great pains to explain the size of our rooms. We are a heritage hotel with an old and a new wing and 4 room types. Every room has been repainted within the last 18 months. If you had... More

We were at a conference in Chippendale so the Vulcan was ideally located for us. Considering the price I wasn't expecting too much, but found it to have some lovely heritage plastered ceilings as well as the necessary modern conveniences. The staff were really helpful, but not pushy and the room was clean and comfortable. Even though the room was... More

Stayed here for 2 nights with a friend in twin queen superior room. Location is fantastic, walking distance of Darling Harbour, Chinatown. If arriving by plane def get a taxi as is overall cheapest option ( one way one person from airport is $16 plus $14 taxi from Central compared to $27 for taxi to airport when leaving). Breakfast was... More

This hotel has a lot to offer. The location and convenience of nearby parking were the main reasons for my partner and I. However, the decor and the friendly staff just complimented the stay. The only negative is that on our side of the hotel we had to use the elevator as one cannot use the fire escape stairs. Waiting... More

Very good value with clean, quiet rooms and a friendly, international front-desk staff. The owners are hands-on and help ensure your needs are met (in a pinch, I was given a cell phone for an international call). Relatively easy walk to Central Station and George St. bus routes (with service to Circular Quay), Chinatown, Paddy's Market, Powerhouse Museum, Ian Thorpe... More
