Excellent value for money, in a great location and with simple, clean rooms. Last time I had a shared bathroom which was less problematic than I thought; this time I had a tiny but practical ensuite. The stairs are steep and narrow and there's no lift, but I'm lucky that's not a problem for me. No standard reception, just a... More

I was referred to The Maisonette by a hotel in the same group that was fully booked - it was a lucky switch! Jonathan, the receptionist, couldn't have been more helpful, phoning me back straightaway with a work-around for the minimum two-night stay as we only needed to be in Sydney for one night. When we arrived, he helped me... More

Stayed here 5 nights. The receptionist Jonathon was excellent - couldn't do enough to help and always with a smile. BUT after I went into my single room (no. 33) on the 3rd floor (struggling up very narrow staircase with my luggage) I found the wifi signal was so weak I couldn't access it - and I'd just had to... Had this booked for me due to a work trip. Room 22 was dirty, dated and there were cockroaches. Research on here and Bookings.com shows that i'm not the first to encounter them. Also noisy due to restaurant business below. I legged it that very night as I don't like sharing my room with insects.

As per the title - very very affordable and my twin room ( even though staying alone ) was great. A simple twin room ensuite which was clean. The staff were great and the ease of booking in and out was perfect. The wonderful thing about this guest house is its stunning location. Close to the train station, close to... More

We stayed in Sydney for one night and needed somewhere cheap within walking or train distance of everything. this was the perfect spot. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. Unfortunately there was no balcony or lift, and the stairs are narrow and long, but hey what do you expect paying so little, so this was fine. I... More

I stayed here is June 2012 and loved the location. I have since stayed elsewhere in Kings Cross Potts Point area as I like to try different premises. I did book well in advance and booked a twin ensuite room as needed a bit more space and the singles had shared bathrooms. The room was on the left hand side... More

Stayed overnight to be close to the vivid festival in the city. Comfortable stay with great linen. You can't expect excellence with the budget price but it was more than adequate. The staff were very obliging and friendly. Great location, many cafes and restaurants close by and a supermarket if you want to self cater on a budget. The cafe... More

The Maisonette is a welcome value proposition in a city with high hotel prices. Let's be real: this is not the Four Seasons. But, for a fraction of the price, you get a stellar location (walkable from all the sites downtown and in the midst of a wonderful bar/restaurant/cafe sector) and above average digs. Consider the room I nabbed: a... More

I really liked the Maisonette Hotel. Great location and street, I had a front room and it was nice and quite, lovely light but also shutters to keep it quiet and dark at night. The room was spacious and big king bed. Was clean, but I did notice the ceiling fan was very very dusty, lucky it was winter, so... More
