I stayed at the Base Hostel from May to July 2005. The location is great, its near Pyrmont, walking distance to the Aquarium, and Star City, and 5 minute distance to George Street where all the shops, bars and restaurants are. We booked here on the reccomendation of our travel agent. We payed AUSD90 for a double room, certainly not worth the money. The room was extremely basic and we were expecting a lot more for what we payed. The bathrooms are modern, however seriously in need of a good clean. In regards to the "horriffic" Review i think this person has the wrong hostel, i found this hostel to be very good, There were bathrooms on every level, the staff were VERY helpful and they knew how to have fun in the bar next door. There were no bugs that i could see. No hookers or bums floating round outside... more

This is a great place to stay. It has a very big Kitchen, lounge room and even has a pub right beside it. it is in a great location right in the centre of Sydney within walking distance of everything and right beside the train or bus to take you to the beach. The staff are also very helpful more

DO NOT stay here!!!The photos bear no resemblance to what I saw! I arrived late at night - too late at night to find anywhewre else. i would have tried but the drunks and hookers outside put me off. To start with this hostel is in a bad location.It seems after 5pm all the workers in this part of the city head home leaving the area a bit of a ghost town.The staff at the desk, who buy the way weren't Australians were almost rude and irritated buy my presence.This place lacks a backpackers atmosphere and is way over... more
