We were visiting our son who lived nearby so chose this place for the location. Although we knew that at the price and the fact that it used to be the YWCA it wasn't going to be the most luxurious of rooms, it was a bit of a shock to see how small the room actually was. It was a... more

Upon arrival at the Y Hotel South, our first impressions were of doubt, however once inside and in our room we were pleasantly surprised. The room is small but has everything you need and is everything you would expect from a budget city centre hotel. Our room looked on to the train line which was quite busy but the noise... more

we arrived in sydney and had our car written of 5 minutes from our sons flat. we were devestated being 59 and 72 and then after that we arrived at our booked accomodation in a tow truck still in shock , nothing compared to when we saw our room(would not pass health and safety) awake allnight. As a former Sydney resident, I needed a hotel convenient to Sydney University and public transport to the airport, so this property's location plus budget price were the main attractions. I had a single room with ensuite - both were very small, but perfectly adequate for a single traveller. Breakfast was included - cereal, juice, toast, coffee - and tea/coffee... more

I stayed 7 days at the Y City South for the sole purpose of attending the early stages of the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia. The hotel is a very convenient 6-8 minute walk from Seymour Centre (Sydney University) where the piano recitals are held. The room I got was very spacious for one person, including double bed, en-suite... more

I had the extreme misfortune of staying at the Y City South hotel in Sydney very recently. The experience was so bad that after three nights I had to checkout and move into the local hostel which I found to be a lot more comfortable and clean! Starting with the arrival, you can't actually get into the building without pressing... more

I'd agree with the favorable review that this hotel gets on this site. The window in my room was double glazed so I found it very quiet. If you want to use your laptop there is a separate jackpoint for internet access at normal hotel phone rates. There are also spare power points for plugging in chargers/laptops etc. The continental... more

The Y hotel is a very nice budget hotel, with very friendly staff at the reception desk. Rooms are extremely clean and breakfast is OK. Maybe the ONLY negative thing to say is that is not in Sydney's CBD so you will have to take the train to get there. Nevertheless I highly recommend it! It's a budget hotel, it's... more

Advertises itself as a boutique hotel, budget b&b would be more accurate. Bad location on main road, took me 15 mins to find somewhere to buy food. Smallest hotel room I ever seen, no floor space - does have all facilities within room, i.e. fridge, tv etc but very cramped. Due to road it's also very noisey. Good for backpackers... more
