We loved our stay at The Russell. It's perfect if you don't want to stay in a typical sterile chain hotel. It's quaint with modern touches. Don't miss the sunny sitting room. The hotel is perfectly situated in The Rocks close to the CBD and Circular Quay.

If you are looking for an old, overpriced and generally over rated hotel. This is the place for you! In our room, we found MOLD in the bathroom (Room 28), a super loud A/C unit and more stairs than you could shake a stick at. The area around the rocks is noisy however with the old thin window, you could... More

We stayed here due to its proximity to Circular Quay for a cruise departure. The location was excellent, a short walk. We had a double room with bathroom. We knew the hotel was historic and old but the pics online showed quaint little rooms, however ours was tiny and cluttered, the light from the fridge illuminated the room all night... More

I spent one night here. My room was very comfortable even though I decided to take a room with a shared bathroom. Really, this wasn't an issue as I never saw anyone else! Quite quaint and very well appointed. Breakfast was included as well.

The Russell is a small intimate hotel full of charm and character. Their rooftop garden is a gem and a sunny retreat overlooking Circular Quay. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge are only about a 10-15 minute walk. The location of the Russell is fantastic.

The Russell is location, location, location. Located in the Rocks, Sydney's historic buzzing bar and restaurant area. Only 5 minutes stroll to Circular Quay which provides access to ferries that can take you to all points around the harbour and up the river. The Fortune of War pub which is connected to the hotel and claims to be the oldest... More

This corner boutique hotel is all about charm and atmosphere. The location is on a very interesting street in the Rocks and steps away from the famous Quay, the landmark Bridge, ferry landings and Opera House. Read and believe most of the other comments, and decide if this is the place for you. I'd go back in a minute....who needs... More

For our overnight stay before our cruise what a gorgeous place to stay. The rooms were decorated in an old world style. The staff were lovely and fun (thanks for letting me keep help myself to the Jaffa's). The rooms were ample big enough. And most of all the location was perfect. This is an old world pub though so... This hotel is situated in a historic and convenient location near the harbor. Only a minute walk down to the harbor which is basically across the street and walk down stairs. You can see famous Opera House across the harbor. Short walk to catch a ferry at the ferry terminal, Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Breakfast was included which is... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
