The InterContinental Sydney, an IHG Hotel, is celebrated for its modern elegance and cleanliness, offering well-appointed rooms with breathtaking views, especially favored for its prime location near Circular Quay and the Opera House. While the atmosphere and amenities generally receive positive marks, guests have called out the limited pool size and restricted rooftop bar access. Despite the professional staff, some reviewers warn of service inconsistencies. Additionally, the hotel's value is a point of contention, with mentions of unexpected charges and premium pricing.

We stayed 3 nights at the outstanding Intercontinental Hotel Sydney last month in a spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished, well appointed room on the 30th floor which overlooked the Eastern Harbour and the beautiful Botanical Gardens below. We’ve stayed at Intercontinental hotels in London, Barcelona and Athens in the last 12 months or so and the comprehensive ‘welcome’ email knocked spots off the advance communications from all the others. (The complementary Jet lag avoidance App proved especially useful and we were reasonably coherent and awake by Day 2 of our stay). Although the hotel was very busy, the check in process was seamless and our request for a quiet room away from elevators or service rooms was not only met, but we received an unexpected upgrade for my Diamond IHG status. We opted for the breakfast amenity and were very impressed with the impeccable breakfast service throughout our stay (so sorry but I have forgotten the name of the Irish lady Caitlin ?? who looked after us so well). The fresh fruit and cereal selection and omelettes made to order were excellent. We were very excited about seeing my sister and brother-in-law for the first time in over 20 years and had an amazing family reunion in the Aster Bar on the top floor. We all agreed the iconic views of the Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, the Botanical Gardens were “to die for” and that the friendly, attentive team made our get together even more special. As my (literary) sister put it “We felt on top of the world on what felt like the top of the world “ ! A special mention and thank you to Grace and Anna for arranging/coordinating our special “event” and to all the staff for looking after us so attentively throughout our stay. In short, outstanding customer service from pre stay enquiries through to the concierge service as we awaited our cruise port transfer. Thank you all so much for making us feel at home with your most generous hospitality. We hope to see you all again in the future !

Hotel's Favorite
Had a very long layover in Sydney and decided to travel to Harbor area rather than stay at airport hotel. (Taxi wasn't cheap) Hotel was best value in that area. Nice room and amenities. Staff were helpful.

A great hotel in the heart of Sydney only minutes walk from the ferries, trams, buses and trains which all come together. Great views across the harbour. Our room was beautifully presented, immaculately clean and very well sound insulated so we suffered no external noise. The A/C worked well. The hotel is very close to Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and the botanic gardens. The historic Rocks area is just round the corner. The breakfast buffet is the most extensive I have ever seen. You are shown to your table and a placed card system ensures you are not worried about anyone else taking your table. The main dining area and bar is an impressive atrium, containing the frontage of the old bank, the building’s former use. Food is good but expensive and focussed on presentation not quantity. I recommend eating main meals in nearby restaurants, if you want substance.

Nestled within the lap of luxury, Hotel Intercontinental Sydney sets a regal stage with its elegant ambiance and overall satisfactory offerings. However, as the morning sun graces the horizon, the enchantment wavers in the realm of breakfast. Join me on a journey through the lavish halls and the lukewarm flavors, as we unveil the culinary discrepancies that mar an otherwise splendid stay." The hot food section failed to deliver on its promise of warmth, with both the scrambled and poached eggs presenting as disappointingly cold and overcooked. The sluggish response to the coffee situation left much to be desired; even after a requested replacement, the temperature remained consistently lackluster. The Pantry, nestled in a separate location, offered an array of fruits, cheeses, ham, and pepperoni—akin to a smorgasbord. In evaluating the breakfast at Hotel Intercontinental Sydney, the overall experience fell short of the expected standards for a 5-star establishment. The subpar temperature of the hot dishes, coupled with a lackluster coffee service, significantly diminished the value proposition. While the Pantry provided some redemption with its diverse selection, the overall impression leaves the culinary offering far from justifying the associated cost.

A brilliantly located hotel, which has been stylishly renovated throughout, with attention to environmental concerns, the InterContinental on Macquarie Street continues to offer gracious, first-class service. The new Aster Bar on the 31st floor is a particularly classy addition.

I find it interesting when you stay at the InterContinental Sydney - they ask for bad reviews to be sent to the Asst Manager - & the good reviews to be shared with trip advisor. Umm - Well mine is a bad review - My booking shows - at outlined in the photo 1 King 1 Bedroom Suite Opera View Club Lounge Access. Yet I was denied access to the lounge - Go figure !

Dear Mr. Brooke, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay at InterContinental Sydney. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding your experience. Upon reviewing your reservation, we confirm that you initially booked a King Opera View room. We also acknowledge that as a gesture of goodwill and in recognition of your membership status, our team extended a complimentary upgrade to a suite. It is important to note that this complimentary upgrade did not include the privileges associated with access to the Club Lounge. Furthermore, we would like to address your statement regarding access to complimentary beverages. Although access to the Club Lounge was not initially included in your upgrade, we appreciate that our team made efforts to accommodate your request during your stay. As a result, you and your partner were granted access to the Club Lounge, where you consumed complimentary drinks. The total value of the consumed complimentary beverages amounted to $140 AUD. In summary, while we understand your disappointment regarding the initial misunderstanding, we believe it is important to provide a complete picture of the events that transpired. We remain committed to delivering exceptional service to all our guests and hope that you will consider giving us another opportunity to exceed your expectations in the future. Should you wish to discuss this matter further or if there is anything else we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at guestservices.sydney@ihg.com. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to InterContinental Sydney. Warm regards, Grace

The hotel has very nice amenities. The service varied at the hotel. The restaurant buffet is very expensive for the selection and quality of food available at the buffet. I had issues with being charged for items that did not belong to me, I felt like the handling of the matter took a lot of time and I felt like management treated me as if I were lying. When we went to check in our room was not ready and told I would be sent a message once my room became available, I never received that text. The, personnel however allowed my family to shower and change. Also, I received an upgraded view room as being part of the ambassador program. The location is excellent good access to the tram and train.

From check in to check out, and everything in between, the InterContinental in Sydney was a joy to stay. Centrally located, fantastic location and views to well-appointed rooms. The pool is worth the effort, even just for the view from the 31st floor that provides a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour.

I thought the breakfast was very yummy and lots of selection. Rooftop view was great, but I thought the drinks were expensive. We found the rooms to be very nice and clean. We took the ferry to Manly Beach which was a very easy walk to ferry but straight uphill to get back to hotel.
