Eating out in Sydney need not be expensive. The menu here is varied enough to suit anyone, well presented and served quickly, all at pub prices, eg 270g rump steak, pepper sauce, chips and salad $12. There's also a good range of beers which are well kept and keenly priced.

We have stayed a couple times in the past couple of years. It is a simple hotel with the bare essentials (bed, wardrobe, table in room). Shared bathrooms could have been a little cleaner. More suited for back backers than families. Management are awesome though! easy to make reservations online/from overseas, really flexible and helpful with storing luggage on checkout... More

This hotel/hostel is good if you are on a budget, it is very basic - we had a private double, the room was very small with quite a small bed in, we did have lockers to put our bags in etc in the day but this was all, however the location is good as only a 5/10 minute walk to... More

Stayed in a private room and thought it was perfectly fine for anyone who's just looking for an affordable, no-frills place to sleep while in Sydney. Good location (close to Museum and Town Hall train stations) and nice customer service when checking-in. It was great to have a fridge in the room too. My only criticism was not being able... More

Didn't actually stay here but came for food 4 nights in a row as our hostel had the most disgusting cooking facilities. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and fantastic value for money! Sydney was our last stop after travelling the East Coast and the food here was the best we had! The menu is varied - between... More

This is a good little spot for traveller's on a budget. My sister and I had a private room with a shared bathroom. The room is very simple but it does the trick. The bar downstairs is really friendly and nice to have a few beers in. If your not super fussy and just looking for a simple room this... More

I really liked it here because from feb until May it's not busy at all there is a small group of you so enough to have fun at the weekend but not so many that you have space and it's quite so you can work and be able to sleep! It's not the best equipped kitchen very simple but the... More

This is by far the worst place you could crash on sydney. The kitchen was empty (no dishes and only one spoon), the bathroom was flooded and the atmosphere was horrible. Although it is a cheap and central place, I wouldn't recomended to anyone.

The Strand Hotel is a very pleasant hotel, we would go there for dinner most nights, the food is very good quality and cheap at the price, we had rib eye steak, salad and chips, the cost for that meal was $14 good value. Another night we had the chicken, I think that too were the same price. We found... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighborhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
