My sister and I booked ourselves for two nights in a 4-bed quadshare room at YHA Canberra, and were disappointed when we were told during check-in that we were assigned to two separate (but neighbouring) rooms, seeing that we requested to please arrange for us to be in the same room. The reception staff offered us a choice to move... More

As far as backpacker hostels go, Canberra City YHA is as good as they come! Even in a 10-bed shared dorm, the room was large enough to give everyone their own space. The showers were warm, and all other facilities were great. Everybody has had a bad backpacker experience, though I doubt you'll have one here. Helpful, knowledgable staff and... More

Stayed in a 4-bed dorm, for 10 days. The hostel served its purpose for a research trip, as it was a clean, relatively peaceful environment. The hostel is in a good location in Civic, within walking distance of some landmarks. A little bit more could have been done to ensure more involvement amongst guests, but this did not really take... Had been there for a couple of times in the year 2009,2010. Its a great place in the otherwise quiet city of Canberra. Not very far from war memorial. I had long walks during weekends. In 2009 the heating was not sufficient. But on 2010 I found it comfortable in deep aussie winter. Breakfast was great and sumptuous. Overall I... More

Good experience on customer service for an overnight stay; but room heating is not even standard which they are managed from central sydney. I also reckon ear-plugs to avoid noise at sleep-time. But definitely a very good-deal in the city to stay for a very short trip.

This is a great hostel - very clean, centrally located, good facilities. Very hotel-like in that respect. However, as is mentioned in other reviews, it is in a very noisy location (due to its proximity to the CBD) particularly in the middle of the night. Therefore, a good set of ear plugs is essential, and makes for a comfortable nights... More

I stayed with my school for 6 days. The dinner was bland and was what I would consider a small serving. The beds were just a foam mat and the pillows had no stuffing left. The quilts were very thin and not warm even with winter pj's on. Breakfast was a choice of just right, coco pops, nutragrain and toast.... More

Noise is problematic, if they could sound proof the rooms then everything about this hostel would be tops. Cant beat the location and the communal facilities are better than most yhas in Australia. Wifi better than YHA's in Sydney $ Melbourne.

I needed a place to crash for one night, as I was only in town for a Cat Power gig. No complaints. The bed was clean, the sheets were fresh. Even the communal showers were squeaky clean and immaculate. Never saw a queue there. Hot water was fine, water pressure - perfect. Airco was fine. The bed was equipped with... More

So so close to the city's centre and lots of good restaurants, Canberra City's YHA is a great place to stay. It's very clean and has great facilities. Only problem-- the walls are super thin. Free Foxtel tv and a rooftop balcony with hammocks and seating is a great place to chill out and listen to music. Comfortable furniture is... More
