The hotel is in a quite convenient location but it smells a bit funny. We spent a night there but the room smells quite funny maybe was the aircondition. The breakfast buffet was alright and the service was OK.

We checked into the Rex 3pm on a Friday afternoon after a long drive, and after arriving in our room we were keen to shower before going out that evening. Problem- no hot water! Reception were unhelpful in firstly not advising us upon check in that there was no hot water. Secondly, the call to Reception was also unhelpful in... More

The dear old Rex is being upgraded - not before time - but while it's being renovated, go somewhere else- especially if you want to use the room during the day. It sounds like each wall and the floor and the ceiling is being drilled or jack-hammered. The new rooms are quite good it must be said - though it... More

This is a terrible hotel - The room was tiny, cold and dirty, the bathroom was worse with dust and dirt on the vanity and in the bath. No hot water - it's no fun having a cold shower in Canberra in mid winter ! other than the reception and ground floor public areas this hotel is well past it's... More

If you want a quiet, relaxing stay in Canberra, DO NOT stay at the Rex Hotel. Whilst it is admirable that they are upgrading their rooms, the renovations occur every day well into the night. Jack hammers are still going at 8:00pm on a Sunday night, even after complaints to the front desk. It is terrible, we will never stay... More

Enjoyed our stay at the Rex Hotel Canberra. Within walking distance to the city centre or bus stops and central for all attractions, shopping and restaurants. We had a refurbished room, very nice and extremely clean. Hot water, air conditioning and bed all excellent. Able to open window for fresh air a bonus. Staff were great very friendly, welcoming and... More

Firstly, the positives: Comfy king size bed, cheap, great breakfast included, heater was powerful, great late checkout, relatively close to CBD. Negatives: You have to pay for wifi !!!! What a joke!! There was a lamp in the room beside the bed but couldn't be plugged in because there was no powerpoint for it, the toilet wouldn't flush sometimes, and... More

Nick I, General Manager at Canberra Rex Hotel, responded to this review

Dear Jessica, Thank you for your positive comments which are appreciated and highlighting where we were found wanting. The question of paying for WiFi is mind boggling as it is complimentary whereby a password is given when you request the service. Love to hear from you on that note. Meanwhile you did stay in one of our "nostalgic rooms" which... More
