Having read previous reviews I was a bit concerned but we had a room on the ground floor outer which was quiet and had windows to the outside. The whole place certainly needs to be renovated - it looks very shabby and last century. The public spaces were freezing. However the service was fine -the room was spacious and warm... more

I have just stayed at the Rydges Capitol Hill and have difficulty in expressing my disappointment at how the hotel has slipped in standards since a previous stay a few years ago. The foyer is expansive (but very tired), the inside trees are a great idea (if only they were not caked with dust), the rooms are serviced beautifully (turn... more

I spent the last weekend staying at the Rydges Capital Hill and it was a perfect weekend. As it was my wedding on Saturday Afternoon, we choose to hold our reception at the Fig Tree Cafe and the staff were simply incredible. Setting up a romantic private area for the occasion and providing some of the finest service that I... more

This hotel is SCREAMING for a refurbishment! It's been a while since I walked into such a tired, sad, depressing, dated and tired looking hotel. The foyer/reception/public area is cold (temp & vibe), uninviting, vast, empty and unwelcoming. The staff were polite but a little robotic and in their quest to be quick and efficient leave you feeling like you're... more

We were pleased with the standard of the room but our first night found our room situated between rooms booked to a young football team. Until 1am we had the noise of bouncing soccer balls, coaches talking and knocking on doors and general noise. Why we had been given a room in between this I am not sure. At 11.30pm... more

Thank you for posting your comments. We take these extremely serious and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Your stay sounded like it coincided with Canberra's annual Kanga Cup event. Along with many other hotels in Canberra, we accommodated family and participants of this event. Strict guidelines were issued to teams to minimise noise and I am...

My 5-night stay at this hotel was OK ... at best. The guest room was spacious but the biggest drawback was the heating. The room had no thermostat. There was a Fan Speed control knob on the wall and an On/Off switch on the nightstand. I was the thermostat ... I turned the heat on until the room was too... more

Hi Virginia and thank you for sharing your experience. Rydges Capital Hill is in the process of a refurbishment with emphasis on heating in all rooms. We provide certified fitness instructors during opening times in the gym. The charge includes participation in all fitness classes as well as professional fitness advice. This could change depending on guest feedback such as...

The room was large and overlooking the atrium, but backing onto the bar patrons toilets with all manner of water noises and loud conversation. Apart from the bed itself and a new desk, all the furniture was old and not in a good condition. The clock radio did not work at all and the television was so-so. And all this was good... more

Hi and thank you for sharing your experiencing. I am both embarrassed and disappointed at reading this feedback. It is unusual and inexcusable for our restaurant to demonstrate the lack of service and quality of food as described in your feedback. A copy of this will be going to our Executive Chef to investigate further and rectify immediately. We are...

Stayed friday and saturday night in 2 bedroom apartment. We arrived around 8:30 pm, didnt get any information at the reception about the hotel facilities, parking, breakfast ... Just got the room key handed, that was it. I tried to get into the carpark, as i wasnt told they charge extra for it. After 10 minutes of trying to get... more

Hi and thank you for posting your experience. After receiving quite a few pleasant comments, it is disappointing to hear of your experience. I will be distributing your comments to all relevant department managers as I am confident it will provide the motivation to eliminate basic quality and service standards in a hotel such as ours. Our hotel is looking...

We had a over night stay in Canberra on a road trip to Albury. The reception staff were very pleasant, which was a great against the drapp interior. It seems to go on for miles, with nothing really outstanding to grab your eye. Like a big empty hall. Our room had a great dream bed, (love those beds) quality linen... more

I stay here by choice when visiting Canberra. The location is much better than staying in the city, Manuka is a 5 minute walk and has all you need, restaurants, cafes, supermarket, even a cinema. The hotel is a short walk to Parliament House but at least a brisk 30 minute walk to the CBD. Public buses service this route.... more
