Stated for 2 nights, superior room, with my wife. Obviously a honeymoon bed as it sagged in the middle. Breakfast at $24.00 was a joke, scrambled eggs with asparagas consisted of overcooked eggs, scraps of asparagas, soggy toast. Inedible!!! more

I travelled to Canberra on business and found that the Diplomat was a good option. Positives: - Room was immaculately clean - Furnishings are comfortable and practical - Modern bathroom - Very friendly staff (not posh, just normal people) - Free secure parking (very rare these days) - Close to all the restaurants and bars in Manuka/Kingston precinct. Negatives -... more

Stay here if you like your carpets with spots and holes. Keep windows closed – noisy traffic. One big plus – free internet. Next time, I’ll try to stay elsewhere, within walking distance to Manouka, plenty of good places to eat there. more

I stayed at the Diplomat Hotel for a night while in Canberra and booked it based on reviews I read here. It didn't receive fantastic reviews but neither did any other Canberra Hotel. I managed to get a really good price for it as I am an Entertainment Card holder. The hotel exceeded my expectations, but in truth, I wasn't... more

I travel regularly to Canberra and have sampled a lot of the 4 star hotels - none of which have been particularly great and this one was more of the same. Tired decor, saggy beds, thin walls BUT the one difference here was the friendly staff. The best I've come across in Canberra so far..... This hotel is fine but... more

Just stayed for 2 nights for a weekend away. Room was very quiet and clean. Staff were all pleasant, great position just near Manuka and Kingston which are both good for food. But really everything is about 10-15 min away in Canberra anyway. This hotel would be considerably improved with a facelift - in particular the carpet needs replacing urgently... more

I am a regular business guest of the Diplomat Hotel and I find the reception staff and management are always polite, friendly, couteous, warm and extremely helpful. I have never encountered such obliging and personable staff in a small hotel. There are a few problems, however. Firstly, there is one woman who works on reception who is extremely rude, abrupt... more
