Of all the places I have stayed this was the most pleasant surprise. I thought it was "just a pub" with rooms but this turned out to be excellent value and friendly as well. We were given the "Tack" room, which was part of a converted stable block and it was really the best and most comfortable as far as... More

Arrived mid afternoon and was promptly shown to our room. We had room 1 above the bar. Very nice room with a humungous bed, well decorated and en-suite. Only downside was that the shower did not work properly, it varied from freezing cold to roasting hot so you had to nip in and out when the temperature got bearable, then... More

Really friendly staff and locals. We stayed for the weekend. Breakfast was plentiful as many servings as you wanted. The room was on suite. Tea and coffee. TV with DVD player. The pub stocks ales and ciders. The restaurant served a good range of pub lunches from local foods. The Lincoln sausage was very filling Big telly to watch sports... More

.I stayed at the Lord Nelson with my daughter on 2/6/14. we also booked using booking com .we had no problems. The rooms were nice, staff friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal and it was first class. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lord Nelson.

We live in Newark so can only comment on the food - my friend and I went for a meal last night and had an excellent steak. Although we knew what we were going to have we had a look through the menu which offered a great choice and very reasonably priced. You can't go wrong with the steak special... More

Recently stayed here on a 3 night stay. We stayed in the crows nest room. The room was dated, the blind on the window didn't shut, the door had a massive gap in and there was no wifi in the rooms as stated. Not once did any staff member see if we needed any extra toilet rolls or towels during... More

I booked to stay a night here on a website called booking.com and when we arrived they didn't know anything of it, said they hadn't checked there emails all day (I booked at about 7am) . We didn't get the room we booked because it hadn't been cleaned so we were put in another, it was fine, comfy bed, clean... More

Arrived back to the pub at midnight on Saturday night to find they'd locked us out. Absolute joke of a place. No one on site to let us in, had to sleep in the car - never known anything like it. Avoid at all costs.

We went on other reviews of this pub and also we had stayed in the Lord Nelson before. However we made a big mistake. We had stayed in another Lord Nelson pub a few miles down the road. We later learned that this was on Gainsborough Road, Newark-on-Trent NG24 2NN. This place was great. So we were surprised when our... More

The rooms are across the courtyard from the main building; mine was just what I needed; comfortable bed, clean, well furnished etc. I had dinner and breakfast in the inn and couldn't finish either - such generous helpings. Add a warm welcome and friendly staff and I'll certainly use it again if I need accommodation in the area.
