This is THE place to stay in the battlefields of the Western Front. Most guests seem to come from England, and many seem to be regular visitors/guests at Varlet Farm. This makes sense - Varlet Farm's Hosts - father and daughter duo Dirk and Barbara - are great from the get-go to 'goodbye'! fresh-baked apple pie and coffee on check-in... More

We were recommended to stay here and I must admit I was a little concerned at it being listed as "Bed & Breakfast" being used to hotels, this term suggested small and basic. I had no need to worry, Varlet Farm is a supurbly restored farm house, slap bang in the middle of a battlefield it has everything around it... More

Again it has all been said before from the warm welcome with coffee and apple cake to the honesty bar, to the sitting area, to the breakfast and help yourself packed lunch, local knowledge and saying nothing of how clean this place was, immaculate. Its always a worry when you book accommodation but we really couldn't rate Varlet farm highly... More

There is very little I can say that hasn't already been said by so many people. The outstanding hospitality from all the family. This is second to none, you feel at home the moment you arrive to when you leave. Dirk ,Barbara and the rest of the family make sure you start the day with a hearty local breakfast(cold meats... If you are on the WWI trail in the Ypres region THIS is the place to be. Although it is about 8 Km outside Ypres it is right in the middle of the salient landscape. The family, headed by Dirk, run a most professional and hospitable mini-hotel (it's more than a B&B really) in a disarmingly open and charming way.... More

We have just come back from a brilliant stay at Varlet Farm. We stayed for 2 nights and from the moment we arrived were made very welcome. Barbara offered us hot drinks and a slice of her dad’s famous apple pie and help and information on where to visit. The facilities at Varlet farm are second to none, hot drinks... More

We were at Varlet Farm for three wonderful nights. Dirk and Barbara made us most welcome and comfortable in the wonderfully remodeled barn! Dirk made us wonderful breakfasts each morning, and kept the upstairs fridge well stocked with great varieties of Belgian beer, and wine, for our evening relaxation in the wonderful library! The price was reasonable, and well worth... More

I stayed at Varlet farm for 2 nights as I toured the WW1 Ypres Salient. I was incredibly warmly welcomed by the friendly family and immediately offered coffee and home made apple pie. All the facilities that you could possibly need are provided for a great price. I got a tour of the owners personal museum of war debris found... More

We went here in 2008 and were astounded. If you want to view the battlefields, get some good advice on where to go, and have some awesome hospitality this is the place. Good parking, tidy rooms, and an on site museum.

Our stay at Varlet Farm in early October was delightful, especially since we had the pleasure of staying in the very spacious Family Room on the second floor. Dirk and his daughter Barbara made us feel immediately at home, and the tasty communal breakfasts allowed us a chance to meet the other guests. Barbara was also very gracious when we... More
