This was our 3rd trip to The Old Courthouse but the 1st time we had eaten there. We were a group of 7 and of the 6 different choices we made from the menu only one person was slightly disappointed. We had a great evening and were served well . I just think that the place needs picking up a... More

Stayed here when down in Colchester on business. Vinny, the co-owner has his own way of doing things, but I do recommend to everyone, if in the area and you need somewhere to sleep, have some great food. Then the haunted Old CourtHouse is a defo. History, there's lots of it, believe it or not, they tried them, found guilty... More

The food area was covered in cobwebs and slug trails on the carpets. The toilets were filthy. Wine was OK akbeit the Rose warm. The food was somewhere between average and a breach of the trade descriptions act. The 'homemade' meatballs certanly were not. cheap, nasty, shopbought in anything but a homemafe sauce.> when complained was not even offered something... More

Chose this pub because of it's location and I am pleased I did. I stayed in the rooms outside - kind of a chalet place (may at one time have been a stable yard?) but they were quite comfortable. Like a previous reviewer said the rooms are a little jaded but clean, and for me that is a huge plus.... More

The rooms are outside the pub in a chalet style, so the benefit of coming and coming through your own front door, which suits my unsociable hours! The room was slightly tired looking, but clean and tidy, with everything you need. I ate my evening meal at the inn and it was fine. The staff that I dealt with were... More

Give me a family run, home cooked Inn/B&B any day . Warm and inviting , lovely food, quaint old rooms. (You want sterile , boring and bland, book a travel lodge) . Vinny and Sarah are THE most hospitable hosts I have ever met, nothing is to much trouble for them and their chef Simon cooks the best lamb rump... More

Just spent a couple of nights here and already planning to return. I think some folk need a reality check, it's a friendly place, homely, warm and welcoming. Had a very restful nights sleep. Noise? Didn't hear a thing but you have to bear in mind it is a pub as well! Found the owners, staff more that accommodating. Food... More

I have stayed at the Old Court House on a couple of occasions, it's family run and your sure of a great welcome. The rooms are extremely good value as is the home made selection of food. The bar offers a good selection of beers and a chance for banter with the locals. Vinny and Sarah are excellent hosts and... More

W have just stayed at the Courthouse for a quiet, romantic weekend away. First we were given a twin room when we had booked a double but the staff joined the 2 singles together. We went to bed after having a drink in the bar and the room was very old and basic (we stayed in the stable type rooms... More
