Stayed at the Old Courthouse Inn, weekend of February 1st, for one night. I could not have been treated better; everything about this place was charming and enjoyable. Booking was very simple and, again, very personal. The proprietor was careful of my dietary needs and went to the trouble of buying food especially for me - it felt like I... More

For our December meeting, we (U3A Harwich ...Book Club) decided to have Afternoon Tea at The Courtyard. We could not have chosen better. The Courtyard is bright and welcoming. The table was beautifully set with old fashioned china tea sets and tea pots, enhanced with the generous selection of appealing sandwiches. These were followed by delicious scones, served with clotted... More

we both had the roast dinner, it was excellent, very filling so sadly no room for desert, the restaurant was very warm and cosy, staff made us feel very welcome and were so friendly, I would definitely recommend this restaurant, I will be returning soon.

We were made very welcome, children and adults alike. There were 20 of us in all. Service was quick and efficient. The food was traditional , simple but nice. The place was comfortable and warm. The owners could not have been more helpful. We can recommend a visit.

As a recommendation, our real ale club arranged a visit for 15 on 4th November. Friendly welcome from staff and locals alike. Good choice of real ale plus other beers. Thanks Michelle for the nibbles they were tasty! Pleased to see no dart board or pool table in the bar/restaurant area's. The menu looked appetising, and reasonably priced. Will be... More

I stayed in one of the newly refurbished outside stable rooms and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of fit out and attention to detail. The restaurant and bar have also been tastefully refurbished to a very high standard. The Kentish ale was the best that I have tasted in a long while and the breakfast was freshly cooked and... This was our 3rd trip to The Old Courthouse but the 1st time we had eaten there. We were a group of 7 and of the 6 different choices we made from the menu only one person was slightly disappointed. We had a great evening and were served well . I just think that the place needs picking up a... More

Stayed here when down in Colchester on business. Vinny, the co-owner has his own way of doing things, but I do recommend to everyone, if in the area and you need somewhere to sleep, have some great food. Then the haunted Old CourtHouse is a defo. History, there's lots of it, believe it or not, they tried them, found guilty... More

The food area was covered in cobwebs and slug trails on the carpets. The toilets were filthy. Wine was OK akbeit the Rose warm. The food was somewhere between average and a breach of the trade descriptions act. The 'homemade' meatballs certanly were not. cheap, nasty, shopbought in anything but a homemafe sauce.> when complained was not even offered something... More
