We were taking a long trip in Italy and my husband booked a stay at this hotel for us to have a beach break, the setting is very good but the hotel is poor, it maybe because we stayed in mid september. We booked a "superior room" which was not, we are not fussy people but the food was awful,... More

Il Gabbiano is set directly on the beach at Acquafredda near Maratea. As a lover of 5 star properties, and an ex-hotelier myself, I was left in awe of how well this property is run. Extremely clean, a Restaurant with the freshest food, and service that was difficult to fault. Truly a surprise and a place I can thoroughly recommend.... More

This place is like Amalfi - minus the tourists, the buses and the hustle and bustle! Once you have made your way here, either by train or along the precipitous mountain road, you are here to stay! Luckily the facilites at the Hotel, or further along the coast - grouped under the name of Maratea - make this none too... More

Maratea is a hidden treasure of southern Italy, and thanks to that -unlike Amalfi- it is serene and undiscovered by the crowds. We enjoyed our calming stay in Hotel Gabbiano. Clean rooms with large balcony and view. You can ask for a cab before you arrive via e-mail, otherwise it is a little difficult to reach the hotel. Unlike other... More

This is a lovely gem of a hotel. It is right on the beach front with bays either side of the hotel. It is down quite a long steep little road from the main road but perfectly useable. There is a car park at the hotel. I was welcomed very warmly by Luisa who speaks very good English. I was... More

The hotel is a bit difficult to reach (a small and steep road is finally bringing you to it) but once we'd found it Gabbiano appeared to be the best of our trip to Italy! We got a great seaview room (for a moderate price); and the seaview is really great here! Staff was friendly and fluent in English (and... More

We spent two nights here after a nine day tour of southern Italy, moving on every day. It is a very pleasant hotel with friendly staff and in a beautiful position on a quiet bay with fantastic views. You can hear the sound of the sea from the bedrooms at the front. We arrived out of season and there were... More

After a long bycicle ride we were welcomed very warmly and had a wonderful time. Good beds, very good food, staff is friendly and the beach is close and just for hotelguests. The only thing was it is - by bycicle - after a long day trip - a little far away from Maratera.

They charge extra for everything you do. Beach? 12€ per person per day. Even though the website says its included. Using the pedal boat? 10€ even though nobody tells you it costs extra before you use it. Breakfast is included but its crap. The restaurant's sea food smells like rusty old fat. And the receptionists are straightout unfriendly and ignorant... More

Dear guest, we're very afraid for your bad review. We want to specify that beach price is not 12€ per person per day and on our website says that is NOT included. Pedalò,canoe etc. are to pay extra in all the beaches. Our reception staff is always friendly and ready to resolve our guests problems, we're sorry that they didn't... More

The hotel was fine in general but the service was not so good at all, specially the bathing attendants were very rude and impolite. I'm not even going to talk about the parking lot service, ignorant people who do not even know how to speak their own language. To sum up, the beaches are great but I wouldn't recommend this... More
