Pretty, comfortable and family business hotel. It is located on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast and offers a wonderful sea landscape. It has a careful garden, a small pinewood, and a private car-parking. All the rooms are equipped with private bath, balcony or terrace. The hotel is only 2 Km far from the famous "Terme Luigiane", a modern thermal spa centre with a wide therapeutic structure, which operates within the National Health Service.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night during our 5 weeks road trip around Italy. I booked this hotel through Expedia, so I paid in advanced the fee for the night with breakfast included and all extra fees. At the check in the lady wanted to charge me 80.00 Euros when I asked why she said it was the nightly fee. Then, I said I paid and she said that it was a rate exchange, but then I refused to paid again saying that I had paid in full to Expedia, then when wanted me to pay the 80 euros for breakfast, then I showed her my Expedia paper proving that breakfast was included, then she really wanted me to just pay the 80 euros. I refused, but I was afraid of not having a place to stay for the night. We had to get the supervisor involved to prove that I had paid it all. After that we didn't really fell welcomed. The hotel is not bad, but the bathroom was not clean at all, bed and air all good. Breakfast as anywhere in Italy is full of sweets. We had cappuccinos and croissants. Beside the pool now there is it a cover to hide from the sun and it makes the stay comfortable. The entrance of the hotel is a bit difficult to find and there is nothing around the hotel. Not good restaurants...the city is super small and most of it closed for the summer. The hotel serves a dinner (full Italian dinner with several dishes) we didn't have dinner at the hotel, but we had coffee after. The bad thing about Italy is that people smoke a lot and they are not worry about smoking going around on people that do not smoke. The hotel does not have a smoking area. We were relieved to leave. I don't think they want foreign at the hotel, most of people were just Italians.

We stayed here for 4 nights and for the price it was good value. We had a family room which was basic but very clean. We had a double bed and a bunk bed: all comfortable but the top bunk was dangerous and we had to put the mattress on the floor as my daughter could very easily have fallen out as there was no safety bar. Breakfast was a buffet with good croissants and coffee, yoghurt and fruit, cold meats and cheese. The pool was nice: small and unheated but my girls enjoyed it. The surrounding pool furniture was great.

We booked this hotel in southern Italy for a week. When we arrived, there was a nice young girl on Reception. She was very polite and helpful. Our Rooms were clean and had a lovely view of the sea. There is no lift so had to walk up a couple of flights of steps. The first night, we ate in a Restaurant very close to the hotel and it was ok. The next morning at breakfast, we were shown to a table by a waiter who did not answer our Buongiorno and seemed unhappy. We wondered if he had had some sad news. Breakfast consisted of mainly croissants and cakes, cheese and meat. No bread. Coffee was so strong. The food was a bit stale but it was a sunday so we didn't worry. We ate in the restaurant that evening. Sea Bass and vegetables with minestrone soup for starters and fruit salad for dessert. The minestrone soup was plonked on the table by the miserable waiter. It was mainly pasta with some veg and little liquid. I tried it but could not eat it. No taste and far too stodgy. Dinner was delivered. I didn't realise the fish would be whole so gave it to my husband. But when I tried the vegetables, I could not believe it. Potatoes, Aubergines, peppers. They were refrigerator cold! The potatoes had not been prepared properly. They had big black holes in them with eelworms. Not one of them was any good. The aubergines were stone cold as I said but soggy, so over cooked and the same for the peppers. None of us could eat the vegetables. Then, it was time for dessert. I saw the miserable waiter take a bowl of fruit off of the breakfast bar and jokingly said to our friends, there's our fruit salad. They've taken it to chop up. Well, a couple of minutes later, that bowl was delivered to our table as it was with the same rotten fruit that we didn't eat for breakfast. We wondered if they had something against us as it was so awful and the waiter was so unfriendly. That was the last evening meal we attempted as it was quite expensive and inedible. The rest of the week carried on the same at breakfast with stale cake, croissants, meat and cheese ect., and that bowl of manky fruit, the same fruit and cake every day. The tablecloth was very dirty. We felt we were in a hostile environment. The whole week, we never saw the waiter smile. The hotel boasts 3 restaurants. We only found one. The hotel boasts of a rooftop terrace. Never found it. The hotel boasts of a short cut to the beach. We walked down to the underground passageway to the beach but we didn't have any wellies. It was full of water and mosquitos and we were not able to walk through it. The beach, we visited by car and is a nice beach but a bit of a difficult drive round to it. The hotel is noisy because of the road noise at night and the trains. The double glazing does not work. The Air Conditioning is noisy. The gardens and swimming pool can not be faulted. A beautiful setting, lovely place to sit. Just one problem though, we are non smokers and there was always a strong smell of cigarettes. Mainly in the conservatory area where a lady sat nearly all the time chain smoking. She never looked up when we walked through, totally ignored us, staring at a paper on the table. There were no smoking signs in the conservatory but she took no notice of them and it was an awfully strong smell, we were not able to make use of the conservatory when it became windy some days and had to sit in our rooms. Sometimes, if we had our bedroom window open, the smell would work its way up and through the windows. We soon learnt to keep them shut. The young man and young lady on Reception were very friendly, very helpful and always had a smile on their faces. We settled our bill the evening before we left as we hoped to leave early the next day. We paid for the awful meal from the sunday before. The next morning, we packed up our car and as we were driving off, there was a banging on the back window. When we stopped, it was the lady that smoked all the time. She said to us in English, we had to settle our bill. We told her, we had done it the night before. She had not spoken to us before that and we presumed she could not speak English. We could not speak Italian so we only spoke a little, Good Day, good Evening ect., Then we left. With a sigh of relief, that we would never return. We have never stayed in a hotel before where we felt we were unwanted, we felt that they were doing things on purpose to make us leave. The photos of this hotel, are brilliantly produced, making it a desirable place to stay. I checked on many sites where it is advertised and read lots of reviews. I find it hard to believe the positive reviews having stayed in many hotels in Italy.

My family of five (myself, husband, 11 yr old boy, 9 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl) stayed in one of the rooms that included 2 separate beds plus a set of bunk beds. We stayed in this hotel at the end of a 3 week trip to Italy in August/September this year. Pros: Air conditioning worked wonderfully!! Beds were some of the most comfortable we experienced (in Italy). I'm not sure why it is so hard to get more than one pillow in Italy and ones that aren't flat, but we were able to get extra pillows here (even though a couple were lumpy--I'll take that). The pool was a huge relief to have access to in the 30-40 degree weather. The kids loved the pool and the view from the deck was beautiful. Pool toys available. The ocean was very close, too, and lovely, but be prepared for rocks...bring water shoes. We had a tiny balcony overseeing the ocean. Just big enough for a couple of us and space to dry our clothes. Breakfast was included in the price. Typical European fare: croissants and toasts, eggs, cured meats. Nice treat on a couple days was the yummy triamisu. Delicious cappuccinos included, as well as warm chocolate milks for the kids (which they loved). The atmosphere of this place seems very much like a family. We were in Calabria visiting my husband's family in Paola everyday, so we didn't get to spend time at the hotel past ~3-5 pm, but the owners asked if we could join in for games one day (nice offer) and one night when coming back from visiting family, we could see guests dancing next to the pool--looked like fun. We only ate lunch there one day (since visiting family), but the pasta was one of my favourites in all of italy (probably because this is the region my husband is from and how he makes his sauce). My children loved the resident cat and cute dog. The last day we were there, we had to wake up at 4:30 am to drive to the airport in Lamezia. One of the owners/staff was awake and asking if we wanted any espresso or anything for our journey. It was a nice surprise to have someone see us off so early, since we weren't expecting anything the morning we left. Cons: The entrance was hard to find due to the way the roads are. Car is a must here. The hotel itself is pretty apparent on SS18. Some nights were loud, but I really didn't mind. We were so exhausted from visiting family and beach days that I honestly had no problem falling asleep and the noises just reminded me of families visiting and enjoying each others company. If we weren't so tired, we probably would have gotten up and joined in the fun. The bunk beds in our room were very squeaky--i think we were room #4. There are no black out curtains in the room, like you would find in the States or Canada. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Piccolo Mondo and would definitely stay there again if visiting Calabria. Acquappesa is a very small town, but very close to Fuscaldo and Paola (bigger towns) if visiting there. Thank you to the staff!!

Rooms clean and functional. Staff friendly and helpful. Booked for a relaxing break and delivered exactly as required. Amusing broken English/Italian conversations with Roberto, Antonella and Franco, but we got through it! Lovely beach. We booked B&B, and food (the buffet breakfast) was ample. Wouldn't attempt location without a car, but wouldn't hesitate to book for a short break again.hesitate for a short break again!

Don't stay here, overpriced and dirty. Very unfriendly staff, not what you expect at all. Nowhere near worth the price. Restaurant too expensive too and not good. All in all no good experience, really feels like a rip off.

We stayed at the hotel for one night as we were travelling towards Sicily. The room was good, though there was no way my kid could get up on the bunk bed (no steps or ladder) so we ended up putting the mattress on the floor for the night. As we arrived around 7 and had not seen a lot of restaurants on the way, we decided to eat there. We were told that the restaurant which "specialises in Calabria cuisine and international dishes" only offers a set menu for 15 euros, with a choice from 2 starters, and 2 main course. We were probably the last eating at 8.30, as there were a couple of other families finishing their dinner when we went. When it came to dessert we were presented with a bowl of rotten apples and plums. When we complained, we were first told that fruit was the day's dessert. We told her that we saw other guests having some sort of gateau with ice-cream. She then went in the kitchen and came back with 2 ice-creams. She said that is all that's left, and that there was only 1 rotten apple! That incident spoiled our evening. Breakfast in the morning was good, and partly made up for the previous night. As for the view from the room, we had to keep the windows shuttered down or you have no privacy. In any way, we only had high trees in front of us, but the view from the hotel grounds is nice.

Stayed one night. Pros: Very attentive staff - best of the 12 hotels we stayed at in Italy - and we found several hotels to have very outstanding staffs. Kept kitchen open for dinner for us as we arrived just minutes before they were to close. Breakfast was outstanding, which included cook eggs, breads, and homemade cakes. Cons: Hard to find with GPS. I would stay there again if I were going back to Calabria.

The top floor rooms we had had great views out to sea, the rooms were spacious, well equiped, clean and bright with very good modern bathrooms. The food was very good and plentiful; in particular the breakfast was excellent with hot starters, croissants and a vast buffet. Drinks prices were also very reasonable. The hosts were very friendly and attentive and made everyone feel very welcome. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. I feel some reviews have been somewhat unfair, true the coast road (a normal 2 lane road, not 4 as claimed) does run past the front of the hotel, when we stayed it did not produce significant noise. The cliffs rise steeply immediately from the coast and the hotel is located on a very tight site on the cliff side, they have little choice of where to build, indeed, in my experience it is common to build hotels near main roads in Italy anyway.
