Visited on Friday with family lovely welcoming atmosphere and staff so welcoming . The food is exactly as it says home made . I had the mega burger it was amazing smothered in blue cheese bacon and black pudding and a mountain of the crispiest delicious onion rings. Others had home made pie filled with huge chunks of chicken and... More

We have just returned from cross keys while visiting Appleby fair. We were really pleasantly surprised. The food is amazing, staff and landlord were really friendly and would go the extra mile for you. Rooms were cosy and clean and beds comfortable. The views are beautiful and it's really easy access to the motorway, we would to visit again. carly... More

We stayed for a weekend and were amazed by the quality of the food, all home made and really good. Very good cask ales. The house red was also really good. Staff friendly and helpful - the landlord had quite a sense of humour.

This was not a happy experience for us. The room was spacious and looked clean. The staff were polite and curteous. However the bed was really uncomfortable. The mattress was past its usable date (in my view). We turned it over which was a bit better. But it was on a sprung bed base which was also sagging. In the... More

Many thanks for your comments I will address what you have highlighted! If I remember rightly I came up to your room as you said the water was not hot, which I got very hot for you within seconds. You were extremely nice with me & I asked if everything else was ok, to which you said everything was fine!... More

Good location for visiting both the Lakes and Yorkshire. The food was very good, the Sunday Roast was the best beef I'd ever had. It was an authentic Old English pub with roaring fire and lots of character. The garden room we had was very spacious and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed here at the end of April as a family and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. This old pub is traditional and rustic, just what you want when it's raining, cold and wet. The roaring log fire and cozy surroundings are perfect. The owner is so friendly and welcoming especially made the effort to come and speak to us... More

Dined in both nights and enjoyed both meals. Breakfasts also excellent. Nice pint at the bar. Had a good day out at Penrith. Good spot to set out from with easy access to the... More

we arrived 10pm on Friday night from Scotland to be informed our livingsocial deal meal can only be used on the Friday night , not transferable to the Sat night. so basically we would lose out on the meal. we explained it was a gift so not aware of this condition but the main bar staff woman was insistent we... I found your comments interesting & I had already been informed about your situation. Just to explain to all customers that you had been given a voucher by a friend or relative, the cost of the voucher was £89 that was for two nights bed and breakfast plus a 3 course dinner for two, the true cost of which would... We stayed here with 2 young children and new puppy. Couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. The food was excellent and the room fine for us all. They even brought our dog over a bowl of water. The specials menu was fab and my hubby would certainly recommend the salt and pepper squid! We will definitely return.
