We stopped over for one night on our journey south from Scotland. It is a mere couple of minutes drive off J.38 of the M6 which was why we chose it in the first place. The weather was atrocious and we walked in to find a good pub atmosphere, complete with roaring fire. The cask beer was very well kept... More

We first stayed here several years ago and decided to break our journey here again. The rooms in the main building have odd slopes in the floor and walls but that adds to the character. We were in room 4 which has a large corner bath but no shower. Both dinner and breakfast were good. At 80 pounds, it's not... More

You wouldn't believe that this Inn is only half a mile from the M6, in such a quiet location, with private parking, all staff so friendly and helpful, the food out of this world, look forward to visiting here again.

A surprise weekend for my 50th birthday, we stayed 18 &19th Sept.with our 9 year old son and another family member. Our rooms were off the bar and were spotless and very comfortable with a hospitality tray. We overlooked the garden, play area and the nearby fells. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a 16th century inn... More

I went to the cross keys about a month ago and I ordered the cheese burger with chips. Others in the group ordered the pork schnitzel which I tried and it was beautiful! The man who I think is the owner was exceptionally friendly. The woman there who worked there on the other hand who I suspect was his wife... More

Many thanks for your kind comments & do agree that our restaurant does need some money spending on it & we do have plans to do so. As regards to my partner, I do have a partner but she does not work here. Without knowing who the member of staff was there is no way I could investigate further. However... More

We had a one night stay in an upstairs room. To get the good bits out the way we ate in the Restaurant and the food was acceptable enough, although the steak was tough and the home cooked Onion rings overpowered the dish, and were cooked to a crisp. The breakfast was good and plenty to eat. Now the room.....that... More

A lot to write about here & thank you firstly for your comments. We always always ask customers how their food is & we would have asked yourselves as well, if your steak was tough why not let us know, we would have been more than happy to replace it for you, and onion rings are cooked crispy just as... Greeted by miserable staff on entry. Looked at us like we'd done something wrong by just...turning up! Good beer though, glass of wine £7 large glass! Ouch! Nice garden to rear. Good standard breakfast, all you'd expect, no complaints. Main mean, very disappointing, was looking forward to it but was VERY bland. We both had different dishes and thought the... More
