We stopped at the Cross Keys in for a dinner on our way up to Scotland from down North. The service was friendly, the food good. The inn had a lovely outdoor bit with gorgeous views, and we had an enjoyable, relaxed meal. Definitely worth the 5 minute detour from the M6 to avoid roadside "food" establishments.

We had a garden room (number 8) on Thursday 13th August. On arrival we were greeted by the staff, and shown our room, amenities and light switches etc. we had a light lunch of sandwiches. The ham was sliced from a real joint, not processed. The room was immaculately clean. Although we had neighbours on each side, we did not... More

Stayed here for 2 nights B & B last week. Small but comfortable and clean room, flat screen TV , hospitality tray etc. Very well situated for visiting the Lakes went to Ullswater one day in under an hour and Windermere another day in the same time and saving ourselves the vastly inflated accomodation rates in both places. We ate... More

Nice looking pub, been itching to go back since my first visit in 1991! Stopped off the M6 for Sunday lunch en route down south. Traditional interior was wonderful. Staff polite and attentive. Good menu. My son had sausage, chips and beans and he was very happy. Alas I had the steak and it was as tough as old boots.... More

Having recently moved to the area my wife daughter and I thought we would try it out. The restaurant is clean and accessible, and the beer is good. However as vegetarians the menu was useless. Fish and chips, tuna jacket potato and prawn jacket potato see all shown as vegetarian, although interestingly prawn cocktail, salmon fillet and scampi see not.... More

My partner and I stayed here back in January for 2 nights. We really enjoyed the food was as good as any four/five star hotels we have stayed in and portions are very generous. Nice wee cosy pub, rooms a bit dated etc, but we enjoyed our stay despite this. (bit late in reviewing)..

We stayed here as part of a groupon deal. Our accommodation was one of the garden rooms - essentially a small bungalow in the pub garden. This was ideal, as we had the convenience of staying at a pub, but did not have to put up with noise once we went to bed. The pub was ideally located for visiting... More
