Without a doubt, this hotel in Palenque or Chiapas is the best hotel in town -- a very tiny village of perhaps 2000 people. It feel like you're at the edge of a jungle, and overall it's a nice hotel with a nice pool and spa. What I did not like were as follows: (1) buffet dinners were not good... more

Nice and clean rooms. Elaborate breakfast buffet, nice meals. Located within an acceptable distance of the Palenque archeological site (which is great). The staff is always willing to help, although clumsily at times. Their knowledge of English is quiestionable. Don't order a cocktail! And yes, this hotel aims at tourist groups (I was part of one), so I would go... more

My husband and I stayed at Mission Palenque during a December 2008 Caravan tour. We found our room to be quite adequate and didn't expect luxury accomodations in such a small, out of the way location. Quite amazed at several of the reviews knocking this beautiful hotel, as we found it to be enchanting, the grounds gorgeous, the food was... more

The Mision Palenque is well-positioned for a visit to the fabulous Palenque archaeological site. Just as the lush jungle environment enhances the visual appeal of the ruins, so does it add to the site of this hotel. The Mexican hotel rating system gives this hotel 4 stars, while the American system gives 2.5. I would go for 3.5. The rooms... more

Stayed here in conjunction with Caravan Tour. The hotel, which seems to cater primarily to tour groups, is rustic and the rooms are spartanly decorated. This would be OK, but the furniture was in poor condition and of very cheap construction. In particular, the bed was as hard as a rock. I have never encountered such an uncomfortable bed in... more

Mision Palenque has a nice pool area, pleasant grounds, and a location convenient to Palenque ruins. The rooms are adequate but had some insects--perhaps inevitable in the region. The breakfast buffet was good. However, the other meal buffets ranged from mediocre but adequate to disturbing. Salad greens were sometimes brown (or worse) and a dessert cake was crawling with ants... more

After reading negative reviews of the hotels close to the ruins I decided this looked like our best bet for this area. The hotel is in a great location. It is in town, which means near the grocery store, gas station, etc. but it is set away from the town by a large wall and guarded entryway and then a... more

Mision Palenque is a fairly large hotel set far back on palatial grounds, with a nice pool and uniqe mud spa tucked into the jungle. It's not our typical place to stay; we prefer rustic private bungalows. However, for our visit to the ruins, this seemed like the best available. After seeing other hotels there that are closer to the... more
