Fantastic friendly hotel on a lake. Delicious dinners can be enjoyed overlooking the water. Great hideaway and within the National park. If you like forest walking, it is a superb spot for either easy to moderate walks. There is a church which attracted people from afar, just at the hotel. If you fancy rowing on the lake and trying fishing,... More

This was the last stop on a 7-day trip trip with Vagabond tours and it was by far my favourite place that we stayed. The valley it is nestled in is absolutely gorgeous, next to a national park (unfortunately closed when we were there). It sits across from an old church and small lake. There are plenty of hiking trails,... More

I am reluctant to do a review of Gougane Barra Hotel because I don't want to share...lol! What can I say? Well it is not near civilastion, no shops (except for a tourist shop & tea/coffee shop, both lovely), no pubs...but when you drive around the corner you are immediately transported to a place like no other...your eyes are drawn... This is a lovely hotel where we are welcomed personally by the owner and not forgotten about either during the whole weekend. It is a place to go if you are looking for some good food, good beer, good nights sleep and good walks.

We stayed here one night while with a tour group. It is a gorgeous location, and very private. Everything was excellent, food, room, atmosphere, etc. And if you like port, try their white port....very smooth and tasteful.

We dropped in to the restaurant for lunch on a beautiful Tuesday in July. There were three of us, we were given a very warm welcome and were seated at a lovely table just inside the window. The view of the lake and the oratory was beatiful. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The menu was a little restricted... More

One of our favorite places we stayed in Ireland. The setting was magical, the food in the restaurant was delicious, and the owners were warm and accommodating, even getting a Birds of Ireland book for me from the gift shop after hours as we were leaving before it opened in the morning. The bar was a lovely place to relax... More

We stayed for 2 nights at the Gougane Barra Hotel recently. It wasn't our first visit by any means and we always look forward to returning to enjoy everything about this very special hotel and its wonderful environment. The hotel doesn't pretend to be in the luxury spa category but it has other luxuries that are more precious and harder... More

This was my second stay at the Gougane Barra Hotel and Neil and Lucy once again exceeded my expectations. The hotel is older, but that only adds to its charm. The rooms are spacious and clean and most have beautiful views of the lake and chapel. The food is to die for and the service is amazing. The personality of... More

A really wonderful place for foreign visitors to experience our majestic landscape, good food, friendliness and culture but also a great retreat for Irish tourists and people from the locality. With a stunning view over the lake to St. Finbarr's Oratory and delicious, locally produced food, you cannot go wrong, whether you are there for a week or an evening.
