A roaring log fire, a chatty cheerful barmaid, a wonderful meal of Lamb Cawl with hot bread rolls, Sea Bass fillets and rice pudding served with sweet and sour apples. In addition a good selection of real ales. It was like a step back into the old ways when pubs were run for the customers benefit and visitors were welcomed... More

I was in need of a room in Newport and as I was in a van I looked at the city ones but I was unsure about parking. That's when I saw the Hollybush in Newports suburbs with parking. I booked it with the LateRooms.com app and I took a drive to Draethen just outside Newport to find it. I... More

We chose The Hollybush as a base to visit Cefn Mably, and nearby Cardiff for the weekend. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and very characteristic. We thought it was raining outside until we realised there was a stream running behind the cottage (-city folk for you!) We loved the sound of the stream and the quietness of the area.... More

Very average, menu not what is advertised. Beer garden rubbish bins overflowing, rooms damp and tired, bar dated and shabby. Location is the only plus point, nice and quiet, with a pretty stream. Landlady was stressed and over worked

Well, it's a beautiful place to be, lovely and out of the way, quiet. The room is okay, but the fact on the booking it's classed as a luxury with toiletries it's not. It's basic and has no toiletries. The fact there was around 9 spiders in the room and moths and little flies made it all the more horrendous,... More

Back in the day! Haven't been for such a long time, so read the reviews and gave it a go for lunch. Should really have gone with my instincts and left after a drink, the bar smelled of stale beer. It really needs a re furb or at least, good clean and re paint. I know it might seem unfair... More

We want to apologise if we couldn’t satisfy your expectations. As you know, every guest has his own idea of satisfaction and we respect yours, but I would like to say we do not use frozen chips, due to a lot of customer comments requesting no salt on chips we stopped seasoning after cooking and left it to the individual... My favourite place to eat! Homemade meals, not a chain microwave zap, so I know it's fresh to feed my baby. The best homemade desserts. My favourite being the new gooey chocolate brownie, freshly baked and warm served in the pan, delicious! A must have on every visit :). My older daughter loves the huge ice cream Sunday selection. Lovely... More
