Bäckaskog Castle. Built as a premonstratensian monastery around 1250 (the monks were commonly called "the white monks", due to the color of their scapular), fortified as a stronghold by the Danish in 1584 (resulting in the circumscribed courtyard), transformed into a summerhome by the Swedish King Karl XV in 1845, appointed Historical Monument in 1935, conference-center, hotel and tourist-magnet since... Backaskog Castle used to be a monestery and originates from the early 1200th Century. During the years it has been rebuilded and transformed into the Castle that today is a national monument We spent a night in a suite in the main Building Klostergården. Very cosy and spacious room, with separate seating area. The room was however probably better suited... More

Stayed only one night passing through, and now I wish we'd spend more time there. In the one of the most spectacular settings, this castle now hotel/events -centre offers one of the best value for money accommodation on the south east cost. Stayed in the Möllan building, with the view of the Rose Garden and the main mansion. The rooms... More

We had the most wonderful weekend in these fantastic surroundings. Large, quiet room - a little old- but that is ok in an old castle. The meals were all extraordinary good, combined with good interesting wines, we wouldn't have chosen ourselves. Remember to take your time to take a tour of the castle and the church. And do not forget... More

Didn't stay for the night, but enjoyed a Swedish "Julbord" or Christmas dinner. This is a buffet style meal with a host of excellent dishes, the emphasis being on wild game. The quality, quantity and bredth of selection were outstanding - both the cold dishes (meat and fish) which included included smoken wild boar sausage and the warm dishes with... More

The castle is strategically built between 2 lakes by monks in the 13th century. Now a nice hotel where everything lived up to expectations. One would have expected more flowers in the gardens in a place like this but there are most trees and lawns, all nice kept. Rooms were fresh and cosy, we stayed in a house called "Humlan"... More

We just got back from the very best week at Backaskog castle - our daughter was married in its wonderful chapel - most guests travelled far and stayed there with us. The food was amazing - breakfast a real treat - the rooms clean and comfortable - the use of the bikes, canoes, sauna and hot tubs were very appreciated-but... More

Clean, very friendly staff and well kept buildings in beautiful Skåne! Get the castlepackage, with 3 or 4 meal menu. Breakfast is fantastic!
