Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it can be crowded. Remember though, this is California, & you're on the PCH1. We stayed in a cabin and loved it. It was immaculate with no smell. The refrigerator was spotless. We had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. Bring your food in a cooler from as far away as you can drive in... More

This place has it all. Camp along a river, rent a canvas tent with or without amenities, hard cabins...hotel rooms...anything you want. Showers, restaurant, camp store and food store. The food in the restaurant is excellent, fresh and has specials. ..good innovative specials...lunch and dinner only I think. Campground is clean and well cared for. Just a great experience. ..we... The hotel is very close to the hiking trails in the state park which is a plus. They had a grocery store and a nice restaurant right next to the hotel. It was very convenient. The food was pretty good at the restaurant. The main downer is that the walls are pretty thin at the hotel and the shower was... More

I was a little apprehensive after having a terrible time at the Big Sur Campgrounds, but rented a tent cabin here for a yearly trip we take for a friends birthday. All I can say is that it is the opposite of the aforementioned dump. The people at Fernwood are friendly and accommodating. The facilities are clean and un-cramped. Our... More

I wanted to celebrate my birthday in Big Sur and was struggling to find a nice and affordable place that would accommodate 10 people. The cabins at Fernwood were perfect, very clean, comfortable, affordable, had everything we needed, and we had a great time. We booked the cabins in January to go there the last weekend of March. Apparently we... More

You pay (dearly) for the price, and nothing else. The good: -- great location, by a bubbling brook in the middle of Big Sur -- on the road side of Hwy 1 but it's actually really quite at night so road noise is not a concern -- Very clean -- Wood floor (looks cleaner than carpet) The bad (so many):... We stayed in one of the adventure tents, and it was an experience that we'll never forget! The tent had a super comfortable queen sized bed with lots of blankets. Plenty of places to plug in phones and electronics, though there isn't any service in the area and you're completely off the grid. The tent also had a table and... More

We stayed in room B along Hwy 1 frontage. Knowing Big Sur to be pricey, we got a room for $149 for two nights in early December. "Resort" is a bit of a stretch but it was quaint. Pros: priced on the lower end for the area, location in the middle of everything, comfy beds, soft towels, attached general store... More

Rented cabin 30 on short notice, even though they have a 2 night minimum they let us have it for a single night. Cabin was quite modern, and was nestled amongst some huge redwoods. Cabin came with a queen bed plus a twin bunk, shower, fully equipped kitchen and dining / living area, everything was spotlessly clean. Walking out of... More

We stayed two nights in their motel in September in a Queen Room. The Big Sur is a delightful place, with stunning hikes and perceptibly different vibe to the rest of California. We loved the countryside and the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere. We paid $140 a night for our room. Which for the Big Sur I... More
