Big Sur...simply one of my favourite places in the world and this is the only place to stay to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Big Sur. Redwood cabins set in a grove of Redwood trees. This place is the very definition of rustic and quaint. Some of the rooms in the original building may have shared facilities and may lack... More

My sister and I enjoyed our time at Deetjens. The rooms were clean and the heater kept us nice and warm. It was definitely a "community feel" as you could hear other people in the rooms next to you very easily. The shared bathroom was never a problem. We got lucky with our neighbors and they were considerate of noise... More

We loved our stay (just one night) at Deetjens. The room was beautiful with a cosy stove (but also central heating and a hot shower so no chance of getting cold). This place is remote and there is no wifi etc but that's the point. We enjoyed fantastic dinner (with excellent wine) and breakfast in the restaurant too. Only down... More

I read many reviews before booking our two-day stay. We were aware that there was no wi-fi, radio, TV or phone service and that was fine. In fact, we rather liked being disconnected for a few days. We were also aware that Deetjen's is a National Historic Site and that the establishment is much the same as it was when... More

What a lovely place with the most lovely people. I will start with the room - Full wood burning fireplace, wonderful linen sheets with down and duvets, very nice. This place is far different from your typical hotel (ala Marriott, Hyatt, etc.), these are old wood cabins built ages ago, they are historic so they are pretty much in their... More

I feel like Deetjen's does not even need yet another good review from a happy customer. This was possibly the most charming place I've ever stayed in. I understand that the bathroom sharing, and the very thin walls aren't for everyone, but nothing could take away from the charm and coziness of our room (We stayed in the" honeymoon" room).... More

If you value peace and quiet, the Big Sur Inn may not be for you. We returned to the Inn after an absence of 34 years. We remembered a quiet, special place in the forest. Our first choice of room (their only private cabin) was booked so on the advice of the reservation clerk, we booked our first night in... More

I personally love Deetjens for the atmosphere, rustic sensibility, incredible setting and commitment to the environment. This is my second visit and have to say - if you can afford it get a cabin not attached to another, as I did my first stay. I love the comfort of the rooms but they really do need to work out how... We enjoyed our night here, but thought they were very proud of their inn. Both dinner and the room were pricier than any night we stayed in San Francisco but nothing was out of the ordinary other than the beautiful location of Big Sur and the charm of the old inn. The rooms are rustic and our neighbors were up... More
