This is a rustic place like a step back in time. There are some nice large rooms but no frills. No air conditioning but remember the climate is very mild in Big Sur so this is not a real issue. The shower head in the tub was really low and I had to get on my knees to rinse off.... More

This was my 5th visit to Deejen's over a 30 year span. Some things were as nice as ever_ the location, the quaint rooms, the gardens. Since we were there during a holiday weekend (Memorial Day) and the Inn was busy it didn't have a quiet "feel" about it. You must be prepared because the walls are paper thin. We... More

This place was recommended to me and I decided to stay for 1 night, which I wish had been longer... I stayed in Petite Cuisine which as a solo traveller was perfect. It is a natural historic site and is comfortable with fresh linen, and furnished with antiques and the journals of former guests for your perusal. It is a... More

You won't be disappointed if you pick this hotel. The location easy, the food was great and the accommodations were comfortable. We loved the little fireplace in our room, and taking a hike up to the vista point behind the hotel was a great way to spend the extra hour we had before dinner. The staff was extremely friendly as... More

My wife and I stayed at Deetjen's for 2 nights while celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed in the "Little Room". This was her first and my second time staying at Deetjen's within a year. The room itself was very nice, furnished with antiques and a comfy bed. Clean towels and toiletries were provided. It was just right for... More

Sorry. So it's a Nat'l Historic Site. We stayed at Upper Creek. The whole floor slants down and we were almost rolling off the bed! The screen in the window is ripped so critters can get in and we found a tiny frog in the bathroom that freaked us out! MAYBE if we paid like $80 for the room that... More

This is such a pretty and relaxing place! We stayed in the Faraway Cabin - which had its pros and cons. It was nice and private, with a great sitting patio that looks over into the redwood gulch. The bed was super comfy, and windows into the redwood gulch were prefect. Cons were just a slightly irritating bit of car... More

Amazing little place half-hidden in lush, curvy part of Big Sur. We stayed in the Top Antique room which is one of the rooms closest to the road. Nevertheless, we were not bothered by traffic at all, but rather woke up to the sound of birds singing in the morning. Comfortable beds together with the countryside air makes for a... More

This place defines Big Sur charm. Built in the late 1920's and early 1930's, for the next 30 years it was a modest, rustic roadside inn. Then in the 1960's, it became the favored hangout of the beatniks and hippies of the Central California Coast. Many famous people have stayed here. Now, never having changed a bit in its old-time,... We found Deetjens through TA and reserved a room based on the reviews, and were not disappointed. The location is beautiful and our room - Franklin Room - was cozy and everything we could have expected and more. Reading the guests comments book was very entertaining...this is definitely a room for romantics. We only stayed one night, but ate dinner... More
