This is a magical place with cozy cabins (we stayed in Faraway....do ask for this lovely cottage), woodland beauty, breathtaking peace and spirit soothing energy. The staff could not be more lovely or accommodating. There is no phone service, internet or TV, just peace and quiet, nature, a private deck, wood burning stove and time to reconnect with each other.... More

My wife and I stayed in the Stokes room, which is separated from the main part of the inn and overlooks the canyon and creek. It has a lovely wooden deck (see our video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXAB_kXcAVc) and a wood burning stove. The bed is large and comfortable and the bathroom is sizable compared to other rooms.

If you are looking for all the comforts of an expensive hotel you won't find it here. If you are looking for something rustic, charming, romantic with great views and walks then this is your place. I loved Deetjens. Each room is a log cabin. Very basic. No locks on the doors. It oozes Big Sur out of every plank... More

We had a nice dinner in this amazing place that had been preserve in time, food is exceptional and the ambiance is unique. Thanks for preserving this place, hope you can keep it like this for future generations, BUT change your attitude, you are fortunate to work in such an amazing place, surrounding with so much beauty, so treat your... It is difficult not to get a tad mawkish when recalling Deetjen’s; it is unlike any other accommodation I have ever stayed in or am likely to stay in again. Built in a Scandinavian style and encircled by breath-taking scenery with a number of trails situated close by, Deetjen’s is a product of its surroundings in so much as it... More

My wife, 12 yr old son and I spent the night here on our trip down to Bug Sur. It is a great spot to soak up the atmosphere of the place, quiet (no TV or wifi) and spiritual with a great setting in the woods. It is run by a non profit foundation too, which just adds to the... More

It's a beautiful location at Big Sur a little ways away from the touristy Big Sur locale, not far from Nepenthe, which is worth visiting. Tucked away in the redwoods; it's a quaint inn. Our room, Chateau Fiasco, is a rustic room, like all of the rooms, and was charming, but it is rustic. We loved it, but it's a... More

A friend invited me to join her for a Big Sur getaway and little did I expect to be introduced to this little Big Sur gem called Deetjen! People who visit here are searching to getaway from technology and hustle-bustle, and Deetjen definitely provides that setting. There is barely any phone network connection, no wifi on the premise, and no... More

I had been looking for a 1 night stop in Big Sur and rang this place for availability a few months before the trip. I realised that it would be basic, but figured that for 1 night that would be OK. We had a room with a double and single bed towards the back of the property, so we couldn't... More

I knew that it would be rustic and was taken back at first. But, once we got settled we felt that we were swept back to another time. No TV, No Phones, No WiFi, No Keys. We did find a lot of antiques, friendly staff and a very relaxing atmosphere. We did not have dinner here but the breakfast was... More
