Staff works hard. I love all the bad reviews only because I too wish people would stay away from Big Sur to make it less crowded. However, these people are running a hotel in a remote location which in itself is a challenge but additionally so as conditions vary greatly from day to day and season to season in Big... more

We stayed here in October last Fall, and were pleasantly surprised to see almost no after-effects from last Summer's big fires in the area. That concerned us on our way out to the Coast for our two-week vacation. We spent 2-days/3-nights here and were very satisfied with our accommodations. It's not like a big city Hilton, of course, but we... more

Big Sur Lodge is not for those looking for all the plush amenities of a real hotel. It is, after all, within a state park, and similar to camping, except with a roof, walls, a fireplace (in some rooms) and a skylight. We've stayed there 4 times, for the Big Sur Marathon, and if you know what to expect ,... more

We came here planning to stay for 2 nights, just before Christmas. Lack of service does not bother me, steep price - I can deal with it...but, lack of integrity ? There was a planned black-out in the lodge and in the adjacent areas starting in the morning of our arrival. I'd have expected the management to warn us beforehand,... more

It was very nice staying in the state park, though the walking trails weren't open, and it rained a lot... The front desk staff was a bit unfriendly. But our lodge was spacious, and the furniture was real wood. It was a cottage style of building, but modern, and not fancy in any other way. The one heater didn't reach... more

Just made it back from an otherwise stunning drive up the California coast after spending new year's in LA, but our last night in Big Sur was the absolute worst I've experienced in recent memory. It was getting late so we called around for a room, and Big Sur Lodge was the only place available under $400 that we found... more

Good place to stay in Big Sur. Beautiful redwood forest setting, comfortable cottage housing, well maintained and staffed, relatively good value when judged by Big Sur standard. Recommended. more

We stayed at the place because it was late at night and not many places to choose from. If I had read the trip advisor we never would have stayed there. To start with no one was at the check in area and the other staff finally found this very rude guy to "help" us. I was charged a total... more

We were unhappy with the hotel we initially chose for our stay in Big Sur and drove down the road to see if the Lodge had any openings. The front desk manager was very accommodating and booked us into a cabin at a significant discount. The trails in the park were closed but we found the cabin to be clean... more

Five years ago this was a friendly, clean, comfortable place to stay at and enjoy the beauty of the Big Sur area. In the last 5 years it seems to have lost its heart. Customer service from the top down is lacking. There seems to be no one incharge of the staff. If you ask to speak to someone incharge... more
