First off all, for anyone considering the $160 'one night accommodation plus free dinner and free breakfast for two people deal' offered at the Big Sur River Inn, take note that sometimes free apparently doesn't mean free! An 18% gratuity was charged on the "free" meals plus tax. So somehow a free dinner cost over $10 and a free breakfast... More

For the price, the room was quite disappointing. It was a very rainy, cold day and night. So, having to cross busy Route 1 to go to and from dinner and breakfast was challenging. The small electric room heater was slow to warm the chill air in the room, but hardly made a difference for the bathroom. The hot water... More

We initally booked to stay for 3 nights on a special deal of $160 per room to include breakfast and dinner. Despite a good location over looking the river (although some rooms are across the other side of the road) the hotel is disappointing because it is very run down and in need of complete refurbishment. The rooms are basic... More

Misleading website. Rooms border on shabby given the price. The inn is in need updating, road noise is a problem, balconies are not private. The river is beautiful but he inn is not. Much better accommodations available in Big Sur for similar cost. Pass on this one.

We booked a stay at the Big Sur River Inn after viewing the website and being suitably impressed with the photos and description. When we arrived we were very disappointed with the actual accommodations--so much so that we cut our three day trip short and stayed at another place up the road for the final leg. The riverside rooms did... More

I was going to stay here 2 nights but decided to book just one and see about the other night when we arrived. It was well out of season and we booked a special offer of $160 for lodging, 2 course dinner and breakfast for 2. On arrival the place looked run down and it certainly was. Like previous reviewers,... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a wedding. The website photos looked great, but the hotel was absolutely awful. For $150 a night, there was a room that opened onto PCH, a bathroom with a floor that sloped, a shower with intermitten water of varying temperature, and no television and no phone. I can only imagine the no-TV-no-phone thing... More

Though suspicious of the "no telephone, no tv" amenities of the rooms, I chalked it up to an attempt on their part to provide a respite from modern life and based on their website I thought they were on to something. When we arrived, I enjoyed the "Frogger"-esque requirement of sprinting across Hwy 1 dodging speeding VW buses between the... More

We were traveling from San Francisco to LA on the PCH 1 during the wildfires. We saw road signs warning us that the road was closed 30 miles ahead but we kept going. Signs kept letting us know the road was closed ahead and it was already dark so when we came upon Big Sur River Inn, we decided to... More

You are honestly better off in a tent on their campground. The room is very basic, plywood walls, tiny shower, not too clean, no phone or TV. The worst thing is the 1 inch gap between the entrance door and the floor, which means 1000's of insects in the room. At least in the tent you can zip up the... More
