Read the reviews and was concerned. My wife booked it anyway. We just stayed a few hours (overnight) on the way to Southern California. Room was recently renovated, very plain, but that's what I expected. It was clean enough. Bedding was fine, bathroom was small and could use some touch up. There were some bugs in the bathroom - but... More

You’re better off camping. We were stuck in a room across the highway from the river. It was old and dirty. The shower is tiny. An averaged sized man will find it cramped, so anyone larger will be downright out of luck. With all of that, I thought we’d at least find a charming staff or great food. Nope. My... More

Second story riverside room - I left the front door ajar and could hear the water trickling through the river - birds and distant whistling along with the wind gently rustling the leaves in the trees. Next thing I knew I woke - it was already dark - way beyond dinner time - I could only brush my teeth and... More

On our way down the coast we stumbled upon this Motel. We paid 189$ for the night. We had no idea about this place but the sun was setting and it was time to stop. Our room was on the riverside and on the 2nd level. The view was spectacular. The two big redwood close the the balconcy brought a... More

Like many others here I was suckered in by the Inn's attractive website and the positive reviews for their restaurant on Yelp. First and foremost, unless you spring for the $200+ suite, you are getting a room on the other side of the highway from the river. The sleeping area of our room was a fine size and the bed... More

I read all the reviews before I went so I was prepared for anything. I think people were way too harsh on the Big Sur River Inn. First off unless you have the money to go to Post Ranch all the accommodations in Big Sur are basically a step above camping. Also Big Sur in general is expensive, so yes... More

Well, I originally planned this room stay as the last night of a romantic weekend with someone I really liked. We both are seasoned travelers and I have had to stay in some scary places for work. I didnt think it would be so bad, but the host that checked us in alluded to it possibly being not so great.... More

We stayed here for one night while doing the drive from LA to SF. As previously mentioned, the website is very deceiving. The inn, restaurant and "river" of the Big Sur River Inn - which are all very charming - are on one side of Highway One, and the motel rooms are on the other side of the highway -... More

Sought out a nice place to stay in Big Sur the day prior. Narrowed it down to two and wished we took the other. Nice accommodations and good food but the staff are miserable. The only nice staff member we came across was our waiter. He at least smiled at us. The check in girl.... dud, the bartender to busy... More

My $17 "pan-fried trout with creamy dill sauce" came about a millimetre thick, dried out, with some kind of spicy salsa, after about a 45-minute wait in which we watched others who came later than us get served first. I only got a different sauce because I got up to check the menu to see if I remembered my order... More
