We are a family with two young kids and have done quite a few safaris already. And actually my wife and kids already visited Joy's Camp already when we lived in Kenya in 2010. So I heard the reviews and of course ensured that I was included on the next trip. So in May 2015 our family made the trip... More

Joy's Camp gives guests the opportunity to experience one of the most stunning parts of Kenya: off the beaten track, and away from the tourist masses in one of the more remote parts of the country. I should start by stating that our stay at Joy's Camp came courtesy of a fundraising auction, with the week-end donated towards a conservation... More

Joy's is an elegant and impeccably maintained safari camp in the Northern Frontier region. With architecture and decor inspired by the native Samburu and Borana people, this camp has a rather exotic and other-worldly air. Each spacious and luminous guest tent opens onto an extensive grazing area bordered by woodland, where visiting animals can be observed from the tent's private... More

Thank you so much for your review. We so loved hosting you at Joy's Camp and spending time getting to know you - we often recall your time with us. Lady Luck was definitely on your side. Lesser Kudu are a shy animal, and not often seen. Snakes as well are usually very elusive, so to be able to observe... More

The third leg of our safari. This C&P camp is different again to the previous 2 making it very special in its own right. We enjoyed the 4 hour drive from Elsa's Kopje and it was good to get to see the 'real Kenya' outside of luxury camps. We were met by relief managers Chloe and James. The tents are... More

Shaba is indeed a breath-taking and unique portrayal of real, wild Northern Kenya – a region of spectacular beauty and endemic wildlife, with a special, peaceful atmosphere that is all it's own. We are so pleased that you were able to enjoy the magic of Joy’s Camp, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon! Best wishes George, Theresa... More

Beautiful large tents. Good choice of seating on the verandah. Good to see that the mosquito nets over the bed did not just cover the bed but were large enough to enclose the bedside tables, meaning that if you need your torch or water etc during the night you don’t have to fight to get out of the mosquito net... Thank you for such a lovely review - and so thorough and useful to other visitors! We are delighted that you enjoyed our wonderful birdlife and that you saw a good few of Shaba's more unusual species. Please do come back soon, we really enjoyed hosting you. As 5 year old child my parents took me to watch Born Free in 1974. Although the film was released in 1966 it came to Sri Lanka at that time. After that i forgot about it. But as a keen Wild Life enthusiast & a well known Hasher it re started with my travelling to Africa. I did this for... More

Thank you so much for your review. The Born Free legacy is such an important part of Joy's Camp, and indeed Shaba's, history. Willem and Francine moved on some time ago - we are the new managers. You must come back and say hello! Best wishes George and Theresa More

Since 3 years in Kenya and nearby 30 safaris... A lot of them in Cheli Peacock Camps because they offer all what we love : quite places far away from the mass tourism but excellent location, a perfect service, fantastic food and very comfortable and tastefully decorated tents and camps. You will never be disappointed. We stayed for the second... More

It was a great pleasure meet you and thank you for your lovely review. Baby Dik Dik is doing very well – and even walked right in through the office door a few days ago! We are also watching our 3 resident lion cubs develop and grow. Shaba is indeed a place of unique beauty and atmosphere – the perfect... More

Joy's Camp was the fourth stop of seven in the faultless itinerary we planned and booked directly with Cheli & Peacock Safaris (www.chelipeacock.com). Cheli & Peacock include a suggested reading list with their information, and it made visits to Elsa's Kopje and Joy's even more meaningful and interesting as we had read the suggested books and had more of a... We stayed here for 2 nights. We had read about this place before so were not expecting lots of big animals and were therefore not disappointed in not seeing lots of these. It's a great place to see birds and also to experience a different type of landscape as it's quite dry and arid here. We went on day trip... More

Thank you for sharing your experience at Joy’s Camp – Shaba is indeed a unique area and the birdlife is, as you say, quite amazing! We stayed for 4 nights in Joy's Camp and our total experience was marvellous. The tents are really nice and luxurious. Very spacious, really good bed, lovely decoration, big bath room (with good shower, no bath). Lots of privacy, because tents are well separated. We had a nice view from our deck on area around the spring in from of... More

Jan, thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough review, helping other travellers to really get a feel for what Joy’s Camp is all about. Yes, the walk to tent 10 is certainly worth it for the seclusion and privacy - a lovely quiet spot. It was a pleasure meeting you and Tiny and I'm truly glad you... More
