We had cocktails and dinner here one night during our stay in Golden Bay. The service from Steve was superb - professional but relaxed, the food was delicious, and there was a great ambience, all making for a superb evening. Would thoroughly recommend and look forward to a return visit whenever we're next in Golden Bay.

We had a lovey weekend in the lodge the rooms are large, comfortable, warm and very well appointed , Steve and Pete have very good taste and nothing is too much trouble we even took our lovely lemon desserts to our room so we could watch the Rugby ! I highly recommended a stay here if your down this way... More

Pete and Steve have a fantastic lodge in Pohara. They are fantastic hosts who made sure we were well taken care of with great food, comfortable lodgings and transport when required. Nothing seemed too much trouble and I highly recommend the cocktails!!! We went in winter and it was a great location to rejuvenate after hiking the northern part of... More

Ratanui Lodge is in Pohara, which in summer is a busy resort. In winter with no crowds you get to see its real charm. The Lodge rooms are lovely. I haven't had as good a night's sleep for years. Pete and Steve look after you very well with the cocktail service, and the evening meal is was good too. It's... More

We can't help ourselves but return to Ratanui Lodge for the umpteenth time. The evening cocktails are a highlight with lots of guest interaction, Divine dinner. Beautiful rooms and furnishings. Faultless service. I think reviewers have started to run out of ways to say 'divine' and 'perfect'.

I am still basking in the glow of our recent trip here. We only had a night on a big tour of the South Island, and am planning a return in the summer. They have really paid attention to subtle comforts and have done something wonderful by creating wonderful luxury without it being fussy or off putting. Wonderful recommendations for... More

Time to update an earlier review. Last weekend saw our fifth visit to Ratanui. When work and other stresses begin to mount, this place is the ideal antidote. Pohara is remote without being cut off, laidback without being stagnant. Steve and Pete are the masters of their respective roles and we are always assured of a warm and genuine welcome.... More

This place is astonishing! Managing to combine great service in luxurious accomodation and with a relaxed attitude is quite rare. Steve and Pete manage it though, and with good humour and attention to detail. After making the booking [via Booking.com] we received confirmation direct from Steve with the offer of any assistance we may need prior to arrival. A week... More

Wow! We were in New Zealand for a month and started and ended our time there at Ratanui Lodge. We stayed in numerous places during our month there, but Ratanui Lodge was the BEST. Luxurious feather beds, antique furniture, silver and china coffee and tea service, AMAZING food. A private pool area to relax in and beautiful gardens. Arrangements for... More

Really lovely place to stay - I echo what others have said - beautifully done out rooms, relaxed atmosphere, and very good quality food. The hand written card welcoming us was a lovely personal touch.
