One of the most beautiful places I've stayed (& I've been lucky to stay in some great places) Hosts very welcoming and staff friendly. Great attention to detail with many thoughtful touches. Fantastic breakfasts. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great for families and couples - would thoroughly recommend. We loved it so much we have booked to go back in the summer... More

Attention to detail for children was exceptional. From a toy room of well organised toys to fancy dress boxes, a cinema and baby monitors this beautiful castle and staff really have thought hard about family needs. It's not cheap but it's beautiful. Breakfast was nicely thought out too. Only minor quibbles would be limited room service ( a meat or... More

We have just got back after a two-night break at Augill castle. It certainly didn't disappoint! My children (age 7 and 4) soon made themselves at home and didn't want to leave to tour the area because it was so exciting for them! They played in the treehouse, played on the park, played tennis, looked at the animals, watched films... More

Dear Paula Thank you for your lovely review. We all know from first hand experience how to turn around the mood of a four year old! It sounds as if the children aren't going to allow you to leave it too long for a return visit so we'll look forward to seeing you again soon. Best Regards Simon, Wendy and... More

Staying just one night at this property in the country with a beautiful spring garden setting was a rare and memorable delight. Staff were faultless. They were cheerful, interested, helpful and discreet. A chance meeting with Wendy was a lovely bonus. The food was perfect. Every dish was unpretentious, tasty, well presented and very high quality. Everything looked spotless despite... More

We stayed at Augill Castle on the 28th February 2014, I had booked it as a surprise birthday present for my Husband Lester. Having read a few reviews I thought the hotel sounded really nice and the Faulty Towers Dining would be the icing on the cake. When we arrived we were made very welcome and shown around, good idea... Dear Linda Thank you for your lovely review. We should point out that Basil, Sybil and Manuel are not permanent members of our staff but, given the positive reaction their visit received we may well invite them back… once we have all recovered. Please don't worry about our bar system being open to abuse. The vast majority of our guests... More

Beautiful location and restored with obvious love and care. A really cosy destination especially in a pouring Cumbrian February. Highlights must be the breakfast, with chocolate muffins fresh from the oven and the well stocked honesty bar. Hosts were welcoming but un-intrusive. Will be back

My wife and I visited Augill Castle for our 1st Wedding Anniversary, just before New Year. We both decided to stay somewhere 'different', and a castle seemed the ideal spot. It would form the first night of a short tour of the northern Yorkshire Dales. Before booking, we consulted the website, and the promise of a unique, quirky room in... More

Dear David Thank you for your candid review. You raise some valid points. We try to welcome families in their entirety and to make children feel as welcome as possible. Unfortunately, on occasion, this means that we have families where parents feel they can simply switch off and abdicate any responsibility for their own children's behaviour. This isn't our idea...
