Great stay at this beautiful place. Privacy at its best. Do not use google maps to visit this place. It shows roads with dead ends and you will be stucked in the middle of no where. We experienced it. So call the hotel and get the details. However our stay compensated all the trouble to get here.

Great place to kick back and check out local sites. Stayed in Villa 18 which is the best. Two bedrooms and a living room overlooking rice paddy with personal pool. Went birding, rode bikes, had spa treatment and barbecue in the middle of the rice paddy. After dinner lit paper lanterns and they floated off into the sky. I would... More

A collection of individual residences artfully arranged over 15 acres of lush, private grounds. Good food at the main building. Friendly service. A tranquil atmosphere near some of the Cultural Triangle, not far from Aduradapura. Access down an unpaved and heavily rutted road

The second hotel on our Sri Lanka trip. After the Wallawwa on our first stop and now the Ulagalla we already feel totally spoiled. After a nice 'ceremonial' welcome we were shown to our villa. They are scarcely scattered around the property around a large rice paddy. 100% privacy From other guests, but now from the monkeys. They are friendly,... More

Gorgeous resort with beautiful, comfortable villas around the lovely grounds and a paddy field. Good location for visiting Anuradhapura and Mihintale. We loved having a day at leisure as well just to enjoy the place, use the bicycles to explore, swim in the large pool with monkeys gambolling around, peacocks strolling past our villa. We were in one of the... More

This place is absolutely gorgeous once you've defeated the approach road. The room is an individual chalet on stilts and is top rate. Push bikes parked beneath - check their brakes! Birds and wildlife abound. Staff are lovely but need their skills honed. Main pool vast and perfect. Wifi poor. Could easily stay a week if the restaurant food was... More

We stayed here for 4 nights in villa 01 which is close to the main building, but has no pool.it does have a bath as well as a shower, and excellent clear views over the rice fields. We didn't mind the lack of a pool as the main pool was very close. The villas are very nice indeed, spacious and comfortable.... More

After having spent many years staying at the very best luxury boutique hotels in Sri Lanka we decided to try Ulagalla which is a little larger than our usual ones but it far exceeded our expectations. Ulagalla is definitely the very best hotel in this part of Sri Lanka. Its standards are extremely high & their attention to detail is... More

Let me start with the price. It's US$700 a night for DB&B, and the comments below reflect the expectations for a hotel in that price bracket. Starting with the good points: 1. The grounds are beautiful. The gardens are well maintained, filled with lovely plants and wildlife. Most of the grounds are paddy fields with rice growing, along with woodlands.... More

We expected the Ulagalla Wallawa to be nice but the cottages are just over the top. Very large, modern, well laid out and very comfortable. All the exterior walls are glass but privacy is no problem as they are laid out over 50 acres and are well screened. The staff are very courteous and offer nice little things like bringing... More
