Excellent, as a group of soldiers returning from afghanistan we got the chance to see South Africa and i loved this part of the trip. Dinner was caught from the fish trips which was prepared for us (there is other options) 100% recommended to back packers or people who love there outdoors.

The accommodation is basic but very comfortable. The food is simple but well prepared. The staff are delightful, very helpful and informative. The location is good, close to Kosi mouth. About a 30 minute brisk walk. Vusi or Justin will take you there in a 4x4 for about 100 rand return and help you carry your stuff to the "aquarium",... More

Thanks very much for reviewing Amangwane. We are looking into the possibility of moving the parking area closer to the gate, although it is only at peak periods (December especially) that there will be many cars because the volume of people is so much greater at that time. More

We stayed 2 nights just before Christmas , Tommy set up a tent to accommodate 5 ( 3 adults..2 kids) as self catering he even had the staff bring down our own large braii grill (BBQ grill for the rest of the world) the tents and site are fairly primitive with the exception of solar lights and hot and cold... The Camp offers the necessary basics: Tents with 2 single rooms, ablutions separated only with a curtain from the main room and a shared kitchen. The water for the shower is heated by gas and depending on the wind it can smell quite a lot in the tent itself. The mosquito nets are to small for the bed and in... More

Amangwane was the only low point of our five weeks in SA (we stayed primarily in self-catering accommodation, including other tented accommodation, which provided a good basis for comparison). It feels like a kids camp -- our tent/reed shelter had two very rusty tin mugs in the bathroom, a horribly cracked and broken mirror with jagged edges placed at waist... More

Dear Travelover2003, we’re sorry the standard of the accommodation wasn’t what you were expecting. We do our best to ensure that guests know that the accommodation is very basic before they book. Amangwane is not just an accommodation establishment, it is a community development project with no outside funding. All profits are currently going back into improving the camp, which... More

Rustic camp with a big heart... Thank you Vusi & team for a wonderful holiday. We had the best time snorkelling in the akwarium and spent a week admiring the beautiful Kosi Bay lakes. We went spearfishing, did a canoe trip round the lakes, got chased by a hippo on a boat trip and spent a day in glorious Mozambique.... More

You are welcome! Thank you for the lovely review! I am glad that you love the site as much as we do, and that your holiday was memorable and relaxing. It's fantastic to hear that the kids enjoyed it so much, it seems empty here without them, so come back soon! More

I stayed at Amangwane Lodge for 2 nights in March with a group of friends. It was my first time staying in any sort of tented accommodation and I was surprised to see it so comfortable with all facilites including a patio, good beds and hot showers. Tommy was kind, welcoming and spoke with great clarity. He took us for... More

If your idea of a fabulous time is "his and hers" bathrooms in 5 star luxury then read no further. If your dreams extend as far as having a great time seeing how little some parts of the world have changed, swimming or snorkelling in luxuriously warm water under cloudless blue skies, sitting around the campfire after a great meal... We began our two week holiday in South Africa at Amangwane Camp. It was the perfect place to catch up on jet lag (a 7 hour time difference for us from Canada) relax and take in the beauty of the landscape. We stayed a total of three nights. Day one we went on a walk up to Three Piggy's Point... More

Hey Steph, we're glad you enjoyed your stay at Amangwane Kosi Bay - and thank you for such a lovely long review! The fishtraps are certainly always worth a visit. I still can't believe you speared your fish on the first go! Hope your snorkelling pictures came out well. The chicken livers are suprisingly tasty, even we were a little... More

We stayed at Amangwane for a total of 4 nights but could easily have stayed on for a few more days. We arrived late although it is a very easy drive from Richard's Bay airport, mostly because we had decided to enjoy the drive and have a nice lunch and visit at Ilala's Weavers on our way up. The camp... More
