Amangwane Camp is uniquely located in the northeast corner of South Africa with direct access to the pristine beaches and lakes of the Kosi Bay area. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site, manages and protects the fauna & flora of this large undisturbed coastal and marine reserve. Days are spent exploring the lake system, experiencing the old tradition of the fish traps, snorkeling. Amangwane accommodation consists of 10 permanent tents with en-suite shower, toilet, and hand basin. All the tents are the same consisting of 2 single beds with a bedside table, mosquito nets, plug-point (no hairdryers or kettles please), and all bedding and bath towels supplied. All accommodation is self-catering… A Catered option is now available by arrangement offering a light breakfast, picnic lunch, and homecooked dinner… Guests are welcome to make use of the communal Lapa & kitchen area for cooking and socializing. We usually have a social pit fire burning each evening and we do offer a limited fridge and freezer space as well as a simple daily housekeeping service. Parking is also available within the camp area.

For people who don't camp comfortably this was the perfect stay with comfortable accomodation and shared facilities. One has to note the friendly and helpful hosts and close proximity to Kosi Mouth, easy access to Tembe Elephant park,Black Rock etc. which makes this an ideal base to explore the surrounding area. Tony and Lize, the owners have a wealth of knowledge about the area and one can explore it with them on one of their organised trips. This area is worth travelling to, but be warned: you need a high clearance vehicle/4 wheel drive and lots of energy!

Amangwane camp is lovely. It is a rustic version of glamping but definitely a good experience. We had to leave early owing to illness, but we will be back, probably with a big group of people as it makes sense in the communal kitchen set up. Tony is super hospitable and kind. Great host.

This year we had the privilege of staying 3 nights at the lovely Amangwane Camp. Having a 17 month baby we have become very choosy about the places we stay. Cleanliness, safety, hot water and comfortable beds are a must, this place had so much more. Set in a beautiful location overlooking the stunning Kosi Bay mouth, this informal campsite had a few tented rooms with a communal kitchen. Tony ( the owner) and his very capable partner Liesel were a wealth information about the place. There was never a dull day between beautiful walks in the Dune forest, boat trips through the estuary and snorklong galore. Every night we would gather with the rest of the guests around a camp fire, eating a communal dinner. What was so special about this place was the personal touches. It didn’t just feel like you were another guest. We also had the luxury of an afternoon snooze as one of the staff looked after Hannah. How wonderful.

My wife, toddler and I had a wonderful stay at Amangwane camp recently. The beautiful nature-rich costal setting of the camp was complemented by the friendly and inclusive hosts that ensured our days were filled with fun things to do and see. Will definitely be back!

Really loved our stay. Tony was super helpful with showing us around, recommending things to do and see as well as places to eat. Overall we felt very well looked after. The place itself was lovely, rustic and simple but with everything you might need for a very comfortable stay.

We visited Amangwane for what was supposed to be a three-day visit. We had major car troubles and the three days extended to five. Not only did love our accommodation at Amangwane -- simple, functional, comfortable, and relaxing -- but Tony also went above and beyond to help us out of a very difficult situation. We never would have made it home without him! Looking forward to going back again someday soon, without the stress of a double tire-puncture. Kosi Mouth is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
