Stayed here with a group of people and were very well looked after. Great access to all the nearby hiking trails and a drying room for all the wet gear after the hikes. Also has a warm and comfortable common area and a very well equipped kitchen for re-fuelling in the evenings.

I stayed at Elterwater Hostel for two nights during 'Storm Desmond' as part of a large group of mountain bikers. I can't fault the place. We sorted ourselves out food-wise, other than the Saturday night when Nick (the Manager) cooked the whole group of around 30 a 3 course Christmas dinner. He was on his own because his colleagues could... More

I spent 3 nights with m family at Elterwater Hostel in October 2015. We arrived pretty late in the 1st night. At first, we were worried as the hostel stays away from the crowded and popular area (we didn't have a car so we used train and taxi!) However, we found out later that this location is perfect for hikers!... More

The Elterwater Hostel combines a stunning setting (central but off the beaten track) with fantastically helpful staff and great facilities. The rooms are clean and warm, the kitchen well-equipped and the large drying room an absolute must (even in July!). The walk along to Langdale by the river is stunning. The two local pubs (The Britannia and the Wainright Inn)... More

My first visit to Elterwater Hostel - won't be my last! It's a pretty, peaceful hostel in a great location with a calm and friendly atmosphere and helpful, lovely staff. Big communal dining room/sitting room, comfy sofas for snoozing, books and magazines for browsing. Lots of different sized bunk rooms, some fab, powerful showers - everything sparkling clean and fresh.... More

Visited this hostel this month while doing a long-distance walk. It has a central location being both quiet and secluded. very friendly and welcoming staff. good cosy rooms, comfey lounge..Food was chef-cooked to good standard with an excellent breakfast. This hostel was the best I have ever stayed in and the only down point was a very noisy, beer cooler situated... Thanks for the great review. Sorry about the beer cooler.. Unfortunately, I haven't really got anywhere else to put it, but it is on a timer so it's not on longer than necessary..the only alternative is warm beer! It is a vintage model, so maybe a newer one would be quieter.. I'll investigate! More

We stopped here on the first night of the off road Coast to Coast after a long day ascending Black Sail Pass and then over Styhead Tarn. We couldn't have asked for more. The staff were so helpful in ensuring we were well fed and recovered for the following part of our journey. We can't recommend this place enough -... More

My wife, a friend and I stayed at Elterwater hostel for a night in August when we went for a weekend hike. It is located 4-5 kms from Windemere which is the most busy part of Lake District. This means you avoid the hustle and bustle which is kind of the point being in Lake District. The rooms are comfortable... More
