This was our second visit to the Britannia Inn for a two night, three day walking trip. We stayed in the same room (8) which was bijou but clean with a modern en suite. The pub is rustic and original with an excellent location on the edge of the Langdale Valley. It is only minutes away from some of the... More

Had a wonderful stay here, very welcoming walker's pub which has bags of character and charm. Retaining all of it's character downstairs was a breath of fresh air from the many Country Living catalogue furnished pubs there are about. Our bedroom was more modern which worked really well, so you had a hotel style guest room with an excellent shower... More

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend in Elterwater and every day we visited this idyllic little pub. We ate here twice and the food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing. All the staff were friendly, the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was cozy. We will certainly be revisiting - it's the perfect place to eat, drink and be... More

Had a great evening meal, the lamb dish, a lamb shank , is delicious. Disappointed with the profiteroles though, which came with squirty cream, why not proper cream? We had to book a time slot, so no good if you want to linger.

Spent three nights here. Bedroom and bathroom spotless. Breakfasts as plentiful as you could want with a huge choice of goodies. Evening meals excellent and a great choice of real ales. Always busy and if you want to eat here you do need to book or be prepared to be disappointed. We'll be back!

Three nights booked at short notice began when car from North Yorkshire, met train from Manchester at Oxenholme. The Britannia Inn was ideal for us. When I asked if they took dogs, there was not a hint of reluctance. We had a fine dinner in the dining room on the first night, then ventured to Ambleside and the Elterwater Inn... More

This is a busy Lake District pub full of character. The roaring fires, willingness to cater for every type of visitor, dogs and the provision of high class food are features. The residents lounge is cosy.

I love this place! It's a great no nonsense country pub with roaring fires, great beers, and hearty pub food. We spent an enjoyable few hours here whilst the rain lashed down. All five of us eat here and none were disappointed. My father in law and son said the steak pie was the best they'd tasted. My Cumberland sausage... More
