Come to the pub every year and never fails - great fires in the winter, space outside in the summer. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. great place to have a break on a long walk or even just for a relaxing break during the holiday. Food portions are excellent and the location is amazing. One of my favourite places...

Enjoyed our 2 night stay. Really lovely staff. Tasty breakfasts. Great beer. Warm and cosy. Good water pressure in shower (!) Bit surprised to find 10% added to the price of our evening meal because we ate in the dining room rather than the bar - But that's the only slight grumble. Would definitely recommend if you want a comfortable... More

A proper walkers destination with its real ale and roaring fire. Our room was small but well appointed and clean. The cooked breakfasts were excellent and evening meals very tasty. Most of the staff friendly but a slight arrogant attitude from on of the younger members. We'll definately visit again.

Always liked the pub but first time staying here. Room 8 at the back of the hotel is small but well appointed, comfy beds and nice shower. Breakfasts were awesome! Probably the best ive ever had and includes haggis :) staff very friendly. Great ales. What more can you say.

We stayed in room 2 overlooking the main entrance with a lovely view to the langdales. Comfy bed, powerful shower and a little window seat to watch the world go by. The pub itself was very atmospheric, great real ale and the food served in generous portions, the Lamb Henry was superb. The full english breakfast was very very substancial,... More

A great selection of local beers and ales on tap, huge portions of food, roaring fires. Perfect after a long walk. Staff friendly and efficient. Love this place in all seasons - drinks outside during the summer and inside in front of the fire when its not so warm (or dry).

We eaten here before but never stayed, so we were looking forward to last weekend and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The welcome was as warm as ever, roaring fires in the bars, ales and stouts all perfectly cared for in the cellars and the food excellent. I forgot to mention the Merlot - superb. The rooms were... Stayed in the area after Christmas and came across this pub one day, filled to the rafters with a little eau de sheep from thee walkers but hey, what's a bit of sheep poop in the lakes eh! Staff really friendly. Cosy and traditional. Could have stayed all night!

Second time staying here, hopefully back again soon. Very old picturesque pub in beautiful setting and a great base for a wide variety of walks for serious hikers and casual walkers. Winter special for 3 nights stay really is excellent value. Even ordinary rate is good. Bedroom was quite small (and avoiding catching the bed or suitcase needed a bit... More
